My boxer had the same thing, hives all over. I was also scared didn't know what caused it. I also gave him  Benadryl, the hives went down, but didn't go away either, so yes u did the right thing taken ur boxer to the vet, I also did. My boxer is my best friend so I wasn't taken any chances. His hives was caused from a  Chemical  that was sprayed and he had got into the weeds. My neighbor failed to tell me that he sprayed the whole fence line. So yes, don't take any chances when it comes to ur best friend, they r part of ur famil, I know my boxer means world to me and he is like my child, so yes u did a wonderfull thing by taking ur pet to vet. Don't ever question what u do, when it comes to ur pet, its like do I take my child to doctor or take a chance, no do what u feel is right.

i have a 1 year old boxer  My husband came home from work and seen that our boxer has bumps all over him. I am thinking an allergic reaction. Only because my pug used to get bumps on him when he got a flea on him or ate food with red 40 in it. I have been reading the post and everyone is saying to give Benedryl. How much should I give him? He is 61 pounds

Give 2 Benedryl immediately. Watch to see if they take effect. I would give another one in 4 hours and a 4th one in 4 hours. Then see if the hives are better. Even if they are, I would give 2 more Benedryl 8 hours later just to keep some anti-histamine in their system. Feel free to email me at PawPrintBoxers@gmail.com if you need any help.

Did you ever resolve the hives on your boxers neck area. I have an 11 month old and he had hives or what the vet thinks  is hives. Benadryl would not work so we took him to vet that gave him prednisone pills and Bactria med and after about 3 weeks the hives are back. The ones around neck seem to never clear up and do not bother him. There seem to be so many when we touch. his vet gave him a cytopath shot however the hives on neck and around collar area still didnt go away.

we are trying limited protein diet with no table foods

I dont want to keep medicating him

any help is welcome

I have a 6 months old Boxer/German Shepherd mix puppy. When we first got her, we noticed that she scratched all the time. Took her to the vet and the vet said she might just have dry skin and give her fish oil. The itching didn't stop. About 3weeks after, she itched so bad that she scratched a wound on her chest. I went to get anti-itching spray to help. At petland (where we got her at), They said that it could be a cause of her food. So we switched her food to Pure Vita Turkey and sweet potato. Then a week later, she broke out in hives. The anti-itching spay did not work at all. I freaked out and took her to the vet. He said that her food wouldn't be the cause of it, she's too young yet. That she is allergic to something in the grass. To give her Benadryl 1 mg for every pound. So we started her on that. She was still always getting hives, and getting all red and itchy. So we decided to change her food to Zignature. After a few days on the new food, I started to noticed that now she's only getting hives when she's outside. I've also started giving her more Benadryl than the dose our vet told us. She only gets hives at certain places. We take her to the dog park or my in-laws and she's fine. It's something that is in our yard/community. She still scratches a lot too. So I watched some youtube videos and a guy said to use Aveeno skin relief (rub it into the hive/itching hot spot). Been trying it for a week now, it's helped so much with the itching!

I also tried coconut oil and the oatmeal shampoo baths, and other things. What seems to help her the most is Benadryl (for hives), Aveeno skin relief lotion (my miracle worker), fish oil, and oatmeal baths (most is once a week).
