Ken and I went to see Sweeney Todd yesterday. Christmas Day is very popular for the theaters where I live. Since all the surrounding stores were closed, everyone in the parking lot was there for a movie. LOL--and in a much more relaxed attitude than had they been shopping.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street----what can I say?

Director Tim Burton is long known for his rather dark style movies. He is quoted: ""We decided to go over the top with it and make it more colorful," the 49-year-old filmmaker says."We decided to go over the top with it and make it more colorful," the 49-year-old filmmaker says."We decided to go over the top with it and make it more colorful," the 49-year-old filmmaker says."

Over the top with blood?  Oh yea, he did just that. Now, I did not know anything about the story line prior to seeing the movie. I simply love Johnny Depp and trust his instincts with any strange character he is given. I did not realize this was a singing Broadway theatrical so was a bit surprised when Depp and Carter broke out into song every chance they got. LOL--it took me until the end of Depp's first number to stop thinking of him as Johnny Depp and actually put him into this character. Once I did that, the rest got much easier.

I have always thought Helena Bonham Carter was an odd duck. This role is perfect for her. She blends with Johnny Depp perfectly.

YAY for having Alan Rickman as the villian. I love this guy! I still love him from Robin Hood. Of course everyone loves him from the Harry Potter movies. He is simply fabulous.

Now, this is not a movie to take the kiddies to. Why? That over the top blood which Tim Burton mention. EGAD! It takes until the 2nd half of the movie for the first throat to get slit. Graphicly slit, I might add. But then it just comes and comes again. Lots of blood. Lots of  gurgling sounds as the person tries to talk. You get the visual, I am sure. That is where the "demonic barber" part kind of kicks in.

There is a twist at the end which I did not see coming. So I will save that for you. I will say that once you get used to all the singing, the movie definitely holds its own for content. I enjoyed it, though not on the level I expected. My husband came to the show intent on hating it. LOL--once the blood started to flow, he leaned forward.

Men :)
