More food ?'s

So my boy had a very sensitive belly.  He has been on a kibble for about 12 weeks now (elimination diet for allergies).  Anyhow, his stools have remained frequent and on the soft side since forever.
Here is my question:  We ran out and I went to buy a fresh bag.  I always check the expiration date, and it was something like 7-08 (very soon).  For the two weeks that he was eating this bag of food, his poops were GREAT!!!!  Never been better!  I kept my fingers crossed for when that bag ran out and we had to get a new one, (exp. date 2009) but his poo went back to soft.
Any ideas?

Patricia

I can't believe the date had anything to do with it. But have you tried giving him supplements to try and firm up his stool? Perhaps canned pumpkin or applesauce?

You could also try probiotics. You can find many in pill for at health food stores. It's the natural bacteria in the GI that helps digestion. A lot of high end dog food also have them in the food. What are you feeding?

Hi,

Thanks for the input as always!

I feed Wellness allergy formula with venison.  I have tried the pumpkin and probiotic yogurt in the past, he loves it, but I did not notice much difference in his stools.

Hi Patricia! Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your baby. Daisy was having similar problems but was also throwing up sometimes. I have swithched her to Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison and also the Sweet Potato and Fish. She is doing really well on this food. I also switched her treats to Natural Balance and everything is back to normal. I think it might have been the treats that I was giving Daisy. What kind of treats do you give Fraiser? Do you think that could have anything to do with it? Just a thought. Sending good vibes your way!

Hey there Marian,

No treats for my boy in over 2 months (poor guy).  We have been trying to eliminate the ingrediants that he is intolerant to  :(

I really like the idea of venison as a protien source.  It has help/totally cleared up his runny eyes and itchy skin--that's definately a +    :)

Still working on it!

when we changed our puppy over to a different diet, her stools became very loose. I let it ride for a few weeks, but the stool never got any better, as soon as I changed her over to a different diet, her stools hardened back up and have been great ever since! Might just be the kibble that her body can't adjust too?
