Tomatoes?

Needless to say I'll ask my Vet too - but figured I'd post the question here too.  Who would have thought - Voodoo loves tomatoes?!

The other day I was eating one like an apple - and she came over and licked my hands clean, and gobbled up a little bitty piece.  Then tonight we were walking by the local school, they have tomato plants out and she grabbed one before I could stop her!

So are tomatoes safe for dogs?  Clearly I will not encourage this theft - but I am more concerned that there are greater risks!

Of course on the inside I'm laughing and very proud of my girl eating her fruits and veggies!

UGH found an answer online apparently the answer is NOT: They contain toxins known to cause dilated pupils, tremors and irregular heartbeat. The leaves and stems of tomato plants are the most toxic followed by unripe (green) tomatoes and ripe (red) tomatoes.

Thankfully she did not eat very much and needless to say I will be way more vigilant.

CRUD and PHOOEY!

Found another web site that says the red part is fine, it's the green parts (leaves, stem and unripe tomatoes) that are toxic.

Will call the vet in the am. UGH I'm having a whole conversation wtih myself. That's it done for the night!

I put canned stewed tomatoes in my boys home cooking all the time...no problems. I have also heard the green part is what toxic...just like apples...the seeds are toxic..not the apples.
