ABC quick recap
Permalink

I spent the entire week in Kentucky. Will try to put it into a tiny recap. I arrived Saturday afternoon, found my room and settled in. LOL--staked out what I needed as my roomies arrived a few hours later. I roomed with 2 other ladies and the 16 year old granddaughter of one of them. I have never roomed with that many people before so was a bit worried how it would turn out. No worries!!  It was perfect. I could not believe how well it worked out and how well we all got on. Us 3 adults were up early each morning to go ringside and work. They were selling catalogs and had to be there 7am. I was of course doing internet postings and would get ringside at 7:30am. The show would start at 8am most every morning. LOL--the 16 year would sleep in. Christa was great. She would help us if we needed something from the room (Cokes were in big demand) and would also help a handler friend when needed.

I spent Saturday afternoon in the bar, talking with friends and watching the Derby. Awesome finish! Being in Kentucky watching the Derby is almost like being there. I bopped around meeting friends. Sunday was leisurely with again meeting up with friends. Sunday evening was split between an awesome huge puppy match which was judged by Jimmy Bettis. And an insane hospitality suite that had me reaching for my stretchy pants. Mountains of pizzas and sandwiched. Eclairs and cupcakes were somehow stuffed down already full stomachs. Those eclairs were sinful. And of course, more socializing.

I will try to write more. LOL---my brain is fuzzy over certain days as after as evening activities. I will have to cheat and look at my program at home.

Monday night kicked back into gear with the Top 20 competition. These are the Top 20 Boxers from last year's standings. Three judges go over the dogs and score them in great detail. Each dog is allowed a theme song, chosen by the owners. Everyone dresses up and the handlers are wearing designer outfits never intended to hold liver treats in . The event has been recently remodeled with fabulous music, special lighting and a seriously festive attitude. This is a serious feast for the eyes since it is a rare opportunity to see the best from all points of the country.

LOL---oh, and there is a drinkipoo hour prior smile.gif. (can't spell koktail hour--it got bleeped)

Tuesday morning starts off against with Futurity to finish up the Junior member and then on to Grand Futurity. The specialty judging starts with 6-9 and 9-12 month boys in both coat colors. Then the specialty adjourns for the morrow.

Now, my memory is jumbled over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday events. I know that Wednesday the boys are all finished up being judged, as well as Veterans, Winners Dog is awarded, and then onto the first 4 classes of the girls. Thursday the girls are all finished up being judged and Winners Bitch is awarded followed by Veterans. Friday morning we had 2 Junior Showmanship contestants and then Best of Breed. BOB is the one day when the ballroom is packed. And come down to that final finger point, you can hear a pin drop. Best of Breed, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex is awarded on Friday. Also awarded are 5 Awards of Excellence for the close behind runner ups.

One night, I think it was Tuesday, was the Charitable Trust Auction. Part of it is a silent bidding section which is alot of fun. The other part is a tradition auction that can be rather amusing as tables get into bidding wars. It all goes to helping fund health research which is so important.

I believe Wednesday night was the Awards Dinner. All the yearly awards from the prior year are awarded, following a lovely dinner. This is another festivity that has been revamped. I had a large and tender flilet mignon. Fabulous! Best banquet meal I have ever had at the ABC in all my years. The newest lifetime members are recognized as well as other worthy awards such Good Sportsman.
