This weekend was the annual Golden Gate Kennel Club's benched dog show. I will be posting photos later in the week. For now I am trying to recover. It was a solid 2 days of meet-and-greet with a dog show thrown into the middle of it all.
My days started before the sun went up and ended long after the sun went down. This year I had Holly and Brandi in tow. It was a small show for Boxers in that we only had 4 showing on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. On Saturday, Holly walked away with a Reserve Winners Bitch and Brandi was awarded Best Bred-By Exhibitor. There were no class dogs entered on Saturday. Sunday saw something very nice. A 6 month old puppy dog, just having his birthday that very day, went Winners Dog and owner/breeder handled. This is a very nice boy whom I see having a bright future in the ring. Winners bitch went to a new show owner for her first point on her own puppy bitch.
I had several old friends seek me out to say Hello. And of course I made many new friends. Ringside for Group judging was of course a fun time with friends. And I am thrilled to say that not only did Turbo the Boxer take a Group 2 on Saturday, but Rex the French Bulldog took a Group 3 both days!
Susan benched with me on Sunday. She is pretty darned good at these meet-and-greet shows. She was in charge of Holly for the day as I was in charge of Brandi. The girls were on their best behavior so they required very little effort on our parts. In fact, all the Boxers are very well behaved on their benches :)

The girls indeed handled it well. People of every description, wheel chairs, power scooters, strollers, tiny little babies and senior citizens. They were loving and gentle with each, amid an endless array of noises, motion, smells and non-stop attention.
It is a fun day, but an extremely tiring day. The girls were utterly exhausted by the middle of Sunday, yet continued to shine (though a little more dimly) with their great personalities. The crowd was great this year. Genuinely interested, gentle, and respectful of the dogs and their owners/handlers.
Congratulations to both girls. Can't wait to see pictures!
