Christina, Have a question for you....about the Westminster dog show.
Gary was on his walk with Bob and Stella, he always listens to his sports talk radio, one of the guys on the radio, was saying that at the dog show, people tattoo eyeliner on the eyes to make them stand out, they blacken the noses with magic marker, and actually have testicle transplats for dogs that have been neutered....
Thats NOT ture is it??
I know "nothing' about what goes on there, so, thats why I ask.....
That just sounds crazy... I hope it is not true... Now you have me wondering.

It is true though very illegal by AKC's rules. Humans have long used false parts on their own bodies to make them look "better". It is not a far leap to see them doing this to their animals. But AKC does not support it at all. Dogs are Disqualified all the time if it is determined they had permanent alterations done to them that are not within their breed standard.
Ear cropping would be an example of a permanent alteration which is allowed. Neuticals are not.

I've learned something new every time we've set up in the grooming area for a Dog Show. At the last out of state show, we were set up next to the #1 dog in that particular breed. After watching the handler apply various colors of chalk and marker to the dogs face, it looked like a completely different dog.........colors much more vibrant and defined!! Amazing! Ethical????

It always annoys me to see people chalking up the white on their dog and adding color to the darker parts. That is why I will not be doing that. I will keep the white parts white, by washing it often, and keeping it clean. That will make the darker parts seem darker. :)

Don't get chalking confused with permanent alteration because it is not. The rules state any foreign material you use on a dog's coat must be brushed out prior to entering the ring. But yes, some exhibitors do take "grooming" into areas God never intended.
So so quite a few humans I know :)
