Okay, so I took Cassius to the pet store over the weekend to work on a little environmental training and there is a little vet hospital in the petsotre and they have a scale, so I had him weighed, and to my surprise he weighs 56 lbs!!! He's only 8 months old and I'm thinking that is a lot for an 8 month old boxer to weigh, thinking that his max weight should be around 70 lbs. He doesn't even look like he could tip the scale at 45 lbs let alone 56 lbs!!
I have to admit I was a proud mama when I saw it, but I was also a little concerned that he might be overweight. Does he fall in the average weight category for an 8 month old male??? He doesn't look chubby at all and is actually a ball of muscle. Should I be worried?? or am I overreacting which is a very likely possiblity.....??
Stop worrying... it would be pretty unusual for an 8 month old Boxer to be fat. As long as you can see/readily feel the last couple of ribs, your boy is not fat. Boxer weights are very deceiving, because of the muscle mass they have at the shoulders and thighs. How tall is your boy? You may just have a boy that is going to be larger than the "average" adult male Boxer.

I'm a nervous Nancy when it comes to him for some reason, after losing one I want nothing but the best for him and I don't want to be a bad mommy.
I can feel his last 4-5 ribs so that's good news. I have noticed that his head and shoulders are getting thicker, as well as his hind quarters, so maybe that's it.
From the top of his shoulders to the ground is just over 22".....I guess he'll be able to scare off any unwanted guests pretty easily
*hehe* Goodness, you sound like me w/your worrisome thoughts. But, Sue said it best - stop worrying! I tend to not worry about weight issues until after they reach their adult height/form. To me, a pup is still growing up to & over a year - if they become a little bit chubby, so-be-it - usually they'll shoot up around this time & become sleek again. Think of it this way - you wouldn't want your human baby to be just skin & bones - they're chubby for a reason... they're growing.
As Sue said, all Boxers are different. Pilot will be 6 months old on Sunday and he weighs in at 42 pounds. Some days you can see his entire rib cage and hip bones and they next he has the appropriate covering over his ribs and hips. I prefer to keep my Boxers on the lean side, but I consider these guys puppies until they are 2 years old.

I agree with Sue boxer weights are decieving, and all boxers are different. Sierra is on the small side for a boxer.. she is 52 lbs. I think Autumn will be bigger then her mom. And Robert is going to be a big boy he is getting tall a few more inches and he will be as tall as his mom... Roberts mom came home and got him over the weekend she could not believe how much he has grown.. only a couple more weeks of puppy sitting and home he goes.. Then I can see about working on my grass...

Well, LOL, I'm a Nancy and not nervous....LOL Boxers come in all shapes and sizes. Stella who is 5 years old is 63 lbs.....Bobby who is 7 is 67 lbs....much leaner than Stella, she's stocky....very healthy...not over weight for her height....Bobby is on the lean side....
Tink is also on the small side - 50lbs at 10.5 months. I know she still has some growing to do, but I don't think she'll ever be big. In fairness, she's wired to the moon, if she calmed down for more than 5 seconds at a time she might bulk up a bit!

I think Autumn is going to be much taller and bigger then her mom. This morning all three were running around the kitchen and Autumn is allmost as tall as Sierra in the rear and she allmost looks a hair taller then Robert. She wiggles so much when I get close it is hard to tell. She really has hit a growth spurt. She is eating two big bowls of food a day and does not look chubby at all. She is eating equal or more then Sierra now. I am going to have to take her and get her weighed I am wondering how much weight she has put on.
