I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 10 month old male that I will be getting neutered. The problem is right now he only has one and it's about the size of a small walnut. I know the other one is in there some where :O) He now weighs about 65lbs. I was told to wait as long as possible for the other one to drop, but I also have a 6 yr old Golden Retriever that my Boxer is getting just a little too aggresive with. My Golden is a neutered male and a big baby. Not the least bit aggresive.
Do I really need to wait for the other one to drop? I want to have him done as soon as possible because I do not want my Boxer to be a butt head when people come around. I want to keep him as friendly as possible. Right now he is great with people and I want it to stay that way. I just need him to back off of my Golden Sonny!
Hi Kristina and welcome. I don't know who told you to wait as long as possible, but I would have the neuter done immediately. Rule of thumb, if the testicle has not dropped by 6 months, very rarely does it ever drop. The only people I know who might wait are those who are going to Show a Dog in Conformation, but even they don't wait much longer than 6 months.

I would get him neutered right now. The other testicle is not going to drop. It would have dropped months ago. And if he is already starting to get hormonal, you really want to nip this in the bud right now.
10 months old is a very good age to neuter safely :)

Yes Melo, this is true. A retained testicle can easily turn cancerous since it is a foreign body in the abdomen. As well, testicular cancer is a risk in male Boxers regardless, so neutering completely takes away at least this threat.

My Boxer alos only has one Nut. He will be six month in about 6 weeks and out Vet has told us that he will need nutering for all the above mentioned reasons. One thing that I would like to know is.... Is this an hereditary condition? Also will this change his personality? playfulness? agression etc?

thanks again
It is called Monorchidism and yes, it is inherited. Even in the AKC show ring, all male dogs of every breed must have 2 descended testicles to even be allowed to compete.
Neutering him will not change his personality one bit. Leaving him intact may change him and not for the better. Testosterone is a powerful horomone which has turned some pussy cat male pups into rather testy horny big boys. And that ain't a good thing .

Truer words were never spoken. My 7 month old was neutered a couple of weeks ago.............he is fine and dandy. My other two are also neutered and they are wonderful boys. Unless you are showing in Conformation.........there is no reason to have a whole male!

See maybe this is me but i dont see a point why 2 neutere i mean i wouldnt like some one doing that 2 me
Melo, we are talking about your dog here. Not yourself. You can't compare or equate your private body to your Boxer's when it comes to such matters. Except think on this. It is not uncommon for male babies to have a retained testicle. Human doctors state that if the baby does not undergo surgery to bring down that testicle by 1 year of age, the boy will probably be sterile.
I know this for a fact as it happened to a family member.
Humans want the right to be able to procreate. But think about it, we don't kill all the unwanted human babies. But we do kill all the unwanted dogs. So you have to think along those lines and be responsible.

My friend thought she had secured the yard but he is a wandering hormone... so at 6half months he went under the knife yesterday. Poor baby but it is better for him.. maybe he will stay in the yard now..
