cry Miles is a 13 month old brindle boxer. I Love him to pieces, but has decided to help with the Yardwork. Which would be wonderful IF WE NEEDED HIS help LOL he is digging holes along our fence to get to roots & along our porch to get the roots I'm not talkin small holes I'm talkin down to the clay holes!! Never in the middle its always just to get to the roots he pulls them out and plaays with them. He has tons of outside toys.  Someone told us to try cayene pepper powder. It upset him he ran around like a crazy dog snortin lol drinkin water and 2 hours later went back for more. PLEASE does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the digging???????????cry I will try anything that won't hurt him of course.

Ummmmm... it seems that someone neglected to mention to you that Boxers are wonderful landscape designers!!!!!  LOL
The only decent way I've ever heard of to curb digging, is to give the dog one spot it is allowed to dig, whether a corner of the yard, or a kiddie pool full of sand/dirt.  Bury toys, etc. in the appropriate spot and praise like Hell when they dig in the appropriate spot.
Good luck.  Next, Miles will be  Gardening helping with pruning and repotting, so prepare yourself!!

When Zammi came to us at 18 months old, he thought digging to China was what our back yard was for.
It took about 6-8 months to break him of this habit.........
He was never allowed outside by himself. Whenever he went out to Potty, I would go out and make sure that's all he did.
If he began to dig, he was chastised with a firm "No" and then given a toy and played with as a reward for stopping a new visit to China.
This was a very tedious and time consuming task, but it payed off in the long run.............we don't have any more craters of the moon in the backyard.
Lots of Luck!

Brandi is 17 months and loves to dig. She is a bit better now, but still digs a nice hole every other day. To be honest, we let her. Hubby will chastise her as he fills in the hole and of course show displeasure, but the truth is Boxers love to dig. And a young Boxer is simply trying to burn out their energy. If you spend alot of time with your Boxer and walk them a good 2 times a day, you will help quell their energy level. But if you are going to leave them alone for several hours a day as we do, you have to understand they need to expell their energy somewhere.

Now, a good way to get them to stop at least digging in a crucial area is to put some of their poop in the hole. Weird, but it works :)

[spoiler]

I feel your pain, Stella was a champion digger.....

We tried the kiddie pool with sand in it for her to dig & find toys...it worked for a while, then she decided she really loved digging in the middle of the lawn.

We filled up he holes with poop....that worked for a while, then we tried rocks....she just went to other areas.

Then she decided that the border of the lawn was more fun to dig in...each time she did that, we put in a square cement tile (left over from a remodel we did) and that worked, we now have a little path, LOL...around the border of our lawn.

Our dogs get a lot of exercise, but we found she usually would dig when we were not home...if we caught her in the act, she would get a stern no...some times I even turned the hose on, telling her no!!

Knock wood, we have not had any new holes for almost a year...I'm hoping she grew out of it....LOL

rofl.gif We Are gonna do the path thing by the fence not only for the digging thing, but his protection I don't want him to dig under the fence and possibly hit a jagged piece n get hurt. He's been pretty good though we did the poop thing, and if he goes near the area he gets a stern NO. It's the cutest thing cause he kinda just sighs n walks away rofl.gif sometimes ill catch him looking (not digging but pondering the idea of a dig session lol) at the area, and from the kitchen i will give him a "Miles NO" he looks around like OMG where is she, she knows, and walks away from the area lol he hasn't dug. When he doesnt dig after being alone outside but watched he gets a "Good Boy" then he gets all wiggly lol.

He now has a new thing when he gets praise it's not just his tail that moves lol its his butt and hind legs lol the wiggle butt/back half of his body!  Thanks for all the great tips. Ill have to take more pics n post em i've just been soo busy at work. I havent been able to get on much.
