The recent discussion over digging dogs made me remember Crystal. Our first Boxer, she was a digging machine. She could get pretty deep in the back dirt we have in our yard. When she was young, she was trying to dig under the fence. We could not get her to stop with traditional methods and of course we are frightened she would get out. So Ken took her somwhere else for a romp and I dug a huge trench along the outer fence line. I dug deep and put a row of bricks all along the fence. I then buried them back up and tamped down the ground. The next day she was left alone, she started to dig. She hit a brick and started to dig a bit further down. After several attempts she realized she was hitting something harder than dirt. So she finally gave up.
Well, we are now digging up those bricks that were buried about 13+ years ago. We have extended our back yard out to a huge section of our front lawn which we built up and fenced in. As my husband has been tearing down the old fence, he is finding all the bricks I buried so many years ago. I had to remind him why they were there.
It is sad in some ways. As mad as we were at Crystal for being so pig headed, I was rather proud of myself for outsmarting her. At least once
