Potty Training Pandamonium
Permalink

I have a 10 1/2 week old boxer puppy. She is incredibly intellegent and we have been continuously training her to go "potty" outside, because she is inside 90% of the time. She's got the idea, she runs to the door every time she has to go and sits down.

However, when my boyfriend comes over she gets excited and pees in the floor. She usually runs to the door, but still dribbles in the floor a little. He's not a new character in our household at all, but it never fails. He loves to pet her and isn't very excitable so I'm not sure why she gets so happy when he comes over. She jumped in his lap and urinated on his pant leg last time. Will this nervous behavior pass?

She is still a baby. She is not trained no matter what you may thing smile.gif
Just be consistant in your potty commands and take her out often. Every 30-60 minutes during the entire day.

I do beg to differ! After my experiences with other puppies that I've trained they usually weren't fully potty trained until they were about six months or older... but my baby boxer has had a total of three accidents since we dubbed her "potty trained"... all three were on my boyfriend...

Understood that she does have a long way to go, however. She's an incredible baby (not that all boxers aren't); and very willing to please, training hasn't been too bad so far.

But thank you very much, PawPrint, for your reply!

Okay, then consider this. 10-1/2 weeks does not have the bladder control you think they do. And since she is peeing at just a bit of excitement over your boyfriend pretty much proves it :)

How about pretending she is not potty trained and just continue to take her out often?
I would guess that should help your current situation.

I am sorry if I offended you! =o We do continue training efforts on her, we have far from perfected it. And yes I know she doesn't have complete bladder control yet, I was just wondering if some dogs have this as a nervous habit when they are older... I've never really had a problem with it. confused

This may be a bit of "Submissive Peeing" on her part. Some puppies do exhibit this behavior.
It usually does pass and there are ways to overcome it before it becomes a habit.
