Daisys going to school!, kinda long - sorry
Permalink

Hello all!  Just thought I'd give an update on Daisy.  I decided to enroll her in puppy kindergarten.  We are sadly, having a little bit of an agression issue.  She just will not stop biting.  Not just puppy gnawing.  She has  also snapped and growled at me a few times when I am telling her no.  She also is barking alot.  I never had to deal with these issues with Bacci.  She was never a biter or a barker so I am at a loss on how to deal with it.  Apparently what I am doing is not working so it is off to school.  Maybe some playing and just socializing will help.  I try to tire her out.  I play alot with her during the daytime and we go for a walk - just up our street and back (maybe a couple of times.)  I usually do this once in the morning and then in the afternoon and then after dinner.  I just don't remember Bacci having this much energy.  She goes spastic with the broom, vacumn, rake or anything like that.  I am constantly digging rocks and bird seeds (from under my bird feeder) out of her mouth.  She also loves my Raspberry bushes. She is keeping me very very busy!  haha!
She is doing good at night.  She sleeps with us and usually goes out by 10:30 - 11:00pm and is out for the night until 7am.  She doesn't even wake to go out anymore.  She does not like her crate.  She is ok in there if I am at home but if I have to leave (I've only been gone a hour at the most - church) She goes crazy.  She put a gash on her head (don't know how)trying to get out so I am at a loss on how to deal with that.  I guess we will have some answers when I take her to school.  She will be starting on the 20th.  I know she doesn't have her 3rd series of shots but after alot of research and talking with the vet and the trainer I think she just needs it.  I will be meeting with the trainer on Thursday for an 1 1/2 session (this is a must  the trainer says so she can evaluate Daisy)  The trainer seems very nice and informative.  Been training dogs for 15 or so years.  She has had boxers herself but now has Newfies.  I will let you all know how it went.  Sorry this is so long.  Needed to vent,  I am feeling alittle bit discouraged.  But we will get through this.  I hope!   Ha ha!
She is growing leaps and bounds.  She was at the vet for her 2nd round of shots and weighed in at 14 lbs.

Love that head !!!

She is just being a Boxer girlie. They are not nearly as easy going as the boys. But you need to have a firm hand or they can get out of control. I think class will be perfect for you both !!!

I think you are doing the approriate thing with Daisy.
All my pups have gone to class and it really is a learning experience for the Trainer (You) mostly.  You should learn appropriate techniques to train with positive reinforcement.
These Puppies sure keep you on your toes!
Good Luck and let us know how her training is proceeding.
Pilot has been through 3 Classes so far and is doing extremely well!
Here he is.......

Pilot sure is a handsome boy. How old is he? I am looking forward to the classes. I was always planning on taking her to puppy kindergarten but I was just concerned about her not having the 3rd series of shots. Although the trainer said that they should be put in the classes between 10 and 16 weeks. Preferably the sooner the better. That was all I was really worried about. I think they will help alot.
I did do some soul searching and came to realize that I was probally doing alot more nos! than Good Girls!. I was also a little lapse on not showing her the right thing to do after I told her no. We practiced that yesterday and this morning and she did much much better. I also got some different treats called "bitz" by Old Mother Hubbard. She really likes these and I think she is working harder to get these. Anyone here of this brand? They seem to be full of good stuff.
Thanks for the input everybody!

I know that Mother Hubbard cookies are pretty popular. I have not used them in years but definitely did when I first started training Crystal. Her training of ME went much better :)

Hee hee hee,,,
I have always said that puppyhood is NOT for whimps!!! And I do think Christina is right, the girls are more of a challenge than the boys. Daisy is just testing her boundaries, and trying to get you to play her way. It is up to you to teach her you will not play her way but only your way. In other words, if she gets too aggressive while playing, simply stop playing with her and walk away, completely ignoring her. She should quickly learn that her inappropriate play gets her ignored, not attention (because even negative attention is still attenton.).
Oh and my dogs have always loved Old Mother Hubbard cookies and treats.

I agree with Susan, she needs to know that your are the boss, even at her young age. As for the treats OMH treats are good, so are Buddy Biscuits. For training, I always used soft treats, like boiled chicken breast, of chicken franks. My boys LOVE boiled chicken.

Pilot is now 11 months old and I don't know where the time went.
We will probably get his CGC this fall and continue to train for both Rally and Obedience.
He is doing a bit of Agility on tunnels, shutes and modified A-frame, Dog Walk and Teeter.
(All very low to the ground) None of it seems to phase him at all.
No jumps higher than 8 inches..............he kind of walks over them. I won't start jumping him for quite a while yet.................I prefer 2 yrs of age at a minimum.
He is so willing to please, but when he's finished he goes into the Flop....I have no bones position on the floor. Cracks everyone up...............he is a Momma Boy and Big Lover.
Between Tanner, Zammi and Pilot it seems I'm always at at Drop-Ins practicing on thing or another........they all absolutely love their one on one time with me and so do I.
