I am looking for some help. My wife got a call last night about a boxer boy that had been abandoned and she went to take a look. She ended up bringing the dog home. His name is Max. He is very emaciated, but up until a couple of hours ago, very energetic. He has eaten and drinking water, but very lethargic. I am worried and I don't have a lot of money for vet bills but I want to care for him. Help?

First thing, make sure he has plenty of clean water and a warm safe place to sleep. Give him loves and hugs. Give him some white rice and boiled chicken for a couple meals to help his stomach. Check his stools. If they are runny, take a sample into the vet to check for worms. This is not expensive and even the medication is easy if he has worms.

You can take him to the vet for a general check up so they can listen to his heart and just check his vitals. I would :)

This dog needs frequent small meals, until his body is used to processing food again.  Plenty of fresh water available at all times, and only light exercise.  A dog that is that emaciated has basically no energy reserves at all, so won't have much energy.  A basic health check up would be a good idea, just to be sure there is no major health issue going on, such as heart worms or cancer.  If you have limited resources, knowing this up front will allow you to make a responsible decision abut whether you can truly care for this boy, or if it is in his best interest to humanely end his suffering.  Bless you both for trying to help this guy.  Keep us updated.

thanks for the advice everyone, it is really appreciated. Max is doing well(thank god) he is starting to gain weight and we have even figured out the financial responsibility part. He is a very playful pooch and my other boxer just loves him to death. I want to thank everyone again for all of the advice and also want to thank you guys for being there for all of the animals that need it. keep up the good work.
