Here's the deal, I feed my baby boxer 2 times a day with Purina puppy chow, because that's what the breeder was feeding her. I plan on asking the vet what they rec. In the meantime, I have yet to measure of try to give her the same amout everyday After reading some threads I see that it is a good idea to keep a strict diet, giving the same portions everytime. And I also like how someone explained to only give your boxer a 10 min window.
How much is enough for a lil 3 month old female...it will be two servings a day, with some treats along the way for training? Also curious how you guys do the water thing, because she seems to just drink drink drink? Does Purina puppy chow sound good, or do any of you recommend something healtier? What about human food, my thought was to not give her any at all?
For three months should any of the rip cage be showing, I showed her off last night to a friend and they were concerned, because there was no baby fat? I will try to post a pic later to show you what I mean!
Rescue had Gwen on Eagle Pack holistic dry food with a few tablespoons of wet mixed in. It seems to be doing fine with her. If the "Holistic" Is a little to pricey they also have a regular/non-holistic food which also is very good and seems much better than super market brands.
I think a lot of it and opinion and what you feel comfortable with. That was one of the hardest parts when adopting is finding a food.
Also a lot of vets reccomend Iams but when I googled it I wasn't to happy with it. I even took it from my cats.
I know this can be all a little overwhelming. We have only had Gwen a little over a month and are still learning.
Drop the puppy chow. Ick--and shame on the cheap breeder for feeding such crap :(
There are many quality brands. And you will need to switch gradually so you don't make your puppy sick. Canidae is a good food, but there are many good ones. Go to a quality pet store that will have a better selection. Clearly your breeder has no clue so sadly you can ask them. I fed my puppy Eukaneuba when she was growing up.
For a 3 month old, I would try 1 cup, 3 times a day. If you want to do it twice a day, try 1-1/2 cups. If she is still skinny after about a week, bump it up 1/4 cup. Every dog is different.
