Roxxi's Aggression
Permalink

Well little miss Princess Roxanne Isabelle is going through a streak of aggression. When she is near strangers in public she is sometimes difficult to heel, she jumps on our older dog, bites more than usual, and is playing too rough with her kitten friends. We've had to keep our smaller cats away from her now because she killed a small stray and broke my younger sister's heart.

She's always been very well behaved, but these violent acts have caught us completely off guard. I know playful aggressiveness is normal for puppies but this is out of hand. We have brought it down a level recently, but it has a way to go. What are suggestions to keep this from becoming a very bad habit?

It sound slike Roxanne is a fairly high prey drive Boxer. You need to get her into obedience training, right away. A trainer should be able to evaluate Roxanne, and determine a good training regimine for her to curb/ redirect her aggression. Also, I would never allow her alone with any cats, even "hers", but especially outside/strange cats. Boxers often will live peaceably in a home with cats, but any cats other than "theirs" are seen as fair game.

How old is she? If she's between six months and a year, I'm willing to be she's challenging you. Behavior like that is very common at that age. If you are consistant in your rules and assertive, she'll learn that you are number one.

I agree she is challenging you. Just like a willful child. Obedience training is a necessity immediately. Boxer girlies can be a challenge. You need a firm but fair hand from the get go :)

Sadly the nearest place that offers obedience classes is two and a half hours away! =[ She's barely five months. And yes her prey drive is verry high, this is noticeable. =o

Look into a private instructor. Many can come to your help to help or may have a place they will have you visit at.
