Hello everyone. I just bought a boxer last night and found this website today. My boxer is brown and white and is 2 months old. I look forward to learning more about the breed.

Sorry, I forgot the pic. I got her from friends of ours. I've known these people for about 2 years and I know the pups parents well, Sadie and Major.

I am trying to come up with a name now so that I can also get her registered. here is a pic. More pics to come later...

Aww what a cutie face. Welcome Alan :)

Just so you know, she is Fawn and White. Boxers have 3 coat colors: Fawn, Brindle and White. "Brown" is for ordinary dogs.........so says Brandi :)

Of course, there isn't consistency in what the same colors in different breeds are called. The color called most often merle is called Harlequin in Beaucerons, dapple in Daschunds, and brindle can be different colors in other breeds. And I've seen fawn in Boxers called red, although when I think of red in dogs I think of deep red like in some Cavaliers and Dobies.

"Red" for fawns is a term more commonly used in the UK. But when registering the dogs, they are still registered as Fawn.

But it is true different breeds use different terms to describe coat color. In Frenchies we have Fawn but we also have Cream which is almost white. To muddy the waters, it is not uncommon for Cream pups to darken to a Fawn when they are older.

Frenchies have Pied for the more spotted fellas. But in Danes I do believe that is called Harlequin (sp?).

If you want to get even more confusing - A Boxer with white markings is called "flashy marked" as a description noun. If you call a Co-cker Spaniel "flashy", it simply means they have a showy nature :)

I think pied is actually mantle in Danes. To make matters more confusing, that color is pinto in Akitas.

Cream is a diluted color, and not a real lack of color like in white Boxers. Lots of "white" dogs, like Maltese, are actually dilute cream. So it's possible for the dog to darken some with the right genes

Wow, I'm learning already. Thanks everyone. We decided on her name this weekend, she is "Maggie". Still determining her registered name.

Isn't Mantle, in Danes, more of a large patched black and white pattern versus the more varied Harlequin markings?

Harlequin danes are the white with black patches all over the body. Mantle, I believe, is darker patches on a colored background. See why people get so confused about dog colors?? The exact same color can be called something different in every breed!! LOL I guess as long as we kinow the correct terms for our preferred breed, that is good enough!!!
