Coming when called?

Hi everyone!
We are loving our new puppy Bowser to death.  He really only has two issues, he howls, whines and cries like a wild man when we try to crate him, and he doesn't come when he is called.  It's not that he doesn't know his name, because he looks right at us, but many times he just chooses to keep doing what he's doing....whether it's walking away, or just sitting there staring at us! :)  If it wasn't so frustrtating it would be funny.  We are working on the crate thing and after reading many of the posts here I think we can lick that (haha) but I hadn't seen anyone post anything about this.  Sometimes he will run right to you, but often he just does his own thing.  He won't respond to kissy noises, clapping your hands, anything that usually calls other puppies to you.  He is now 11 weeks old, we've had him since he was 8 weeks.  He's already pretty much housebroken, and understands no and stop...there's just this little bit of ...defiance (?) that I want to figure out before he gets too big!
Sorry this was so long...any suggestions would be welcome!

I usually teach the "Come" command while they are on a leash..........preferrably a 6 foot.
You tell them to sit and stay (They must learn these commands first), walk back to the end of the leash and call them. I always have a treat to give while training. Each time they come, praise and treat. Do this a few times in the morning and the afternoon.
Once they have this down, you can try off leash. Same sit, l stay command, back up a few feet and call. Praise and reward when he comes.
If you can, try attending a Basic Obedience Class, or Puppy Class. They really help.

Aha, so you have now been formally introduced to the "selective hearing" our Boxers are noted for. Repetition and yummy treats are what seem to lock in the recall command best. Also, don't make the mistak eof only calling Bowser when it is time for him to go in his crate, or time to come inside if he's out playing. In other words, don't make coming to you always mean the end to the fun. Call him over just for a quick hug, pat and treat, then let him go back to playing.

I just love this face: avatar.img?ID=72720

LOL---I don't care if he does not "come". Just as long as he cuddles :)
