vomiting? sorry long
Permalink

Daisy is having a problem eating today. Actually the 1st time she vomitied was a wek ago. She had her stitches removed Firday the 1st after her spay and on Sunday I took her over to my moms because she has a big fenced in yard and she plays with her big ball over there. I let her out and she was running and playing for about 10 minutes and then was at the door. I noticed that she had vomited her food that I feed her about 2 hours previously. I thought maybe I feed her to close to letting her play hard. The next time she vomited was this morning. I had noticed yesterday that she had the runs so I gave her a tablespoon of pumpkin with her morning feeding and this morning her poop was fine. However I fed her her usually morning feeding with a little bit of yougart and she threw up about an hour later. She kept going over to where her food was and acting like she was really hungry so I fed her just about half of what I normally give her and she kept that down. I fed her her dinner but kept it light and my nephew came over about a hour later and she got real excited and was running and jumping and wiggling all over for about 5 minutes. We got her to calm down and then about 15 minutes later she threw up again. I am a little worried and wonder if I should wait this out a day or so or should I take her to the vet? Do they get the flu? I also recently (2-3 week ago) changed her food from Canidae to Wolf Cub after a long gradual change. She did not want to eat Canidae so I thought maybe she was bored with it and decided to change. the only thing I noticed was she has really bad stinky gas with the Wolf Cub which is why I tried the yougart. Do you think this has anything to do with it? You should also be aware that Daisy will eat just about anything lying around. While she was recouping from her spay I gave her a rawhide to chew on to keep her calm. She had a total of 3 of them ( she didn't eat then totally just about half and then I threw them away) She does like to eat paper and I really have to watch out for pens and pencils. I am worried about maybe she got into something I didn't noticed although I try to keep a good watch on things. What do you guys think I should do?

Marian, give her a bland diet for now. Steamed/boiled white rice and chicken. Make sure she is drinking lots of water to keep her hydrated.

I would also give her a Pepcid-AC if you think her stomach is empty. All that vomiting is probably giving her excess stomach acid which is not helping anything.

I have done the same with mine, just as Christina has suggested.
If not improved by tomorrow................Vet Trip.
I usually call my Vet and she calls me back with suggestions after hearing exactly what is going on.

Hello all! Daisy seems to be all better. I did as suggested and fed her chicken and rice and then I gave her a mixed bowl today of her kibble with the chicken and rice. So far she has kept it all down. Through it all she did not act sick just hungry! haha!
On another note DH dropped a big log on his big toe when he was stoking the wood furnace this morning. He is now upstairs in the bedroom with the door closed because a certain little girl keeps bumping his toe. She can't figure out why she is not allowed in the bedroom and why daddy is not playing with her. I think he broke it and there is not much you can do but keep it elevated for a few days as much as he can and ice it and take tylenol! Oh yeah and of course stop a little girl from bumping it and dropping her toys on it! haha!
Thanks for the info and good thoughts!

LOL--I am glad she is feeling better. But keep her diet as bland as you can for a few days. No extra types of treats and no human food. Give her tummy a rest.

Poor hubby. I am sure both he and his girl are confused :)
