I do not post much here, but I do lurk quite a bit.....that being said, I felt as if I could come here and share my sorrow. Boo-Boo, my 3 year old female had a large mass come up on her right rear leg about 2 weeks ago. Almost overnight...anyway, took her to the vet last week and scheduled surgery for today. I just got off the phone and the vet seems to think it may be mast cell. She said she wont have the results back for about a week to 10 days, to know for sure and what stage it is in. I am so scared. She is our first boxer that we got as a pup. Our male is 8 ish (dont know for sure because we rescued him from the pound.) He does not have a bump or nothing on him. But Boo has always seemed to have these little tiny bumps that kinda come and go...nothing too serious. But the one on her leg...it was about the size of my thumb. Nasty. Anyway...please say a pray for my Boo-Boo puppy. She does not deserve this and it isn't fair because our son has stage 4 brain cancer on top of this! Thanks for letting me vent.....anybody have any info or suggestions about this...please let me know. Thanks,
Removing the tumor was the absolutely right thing to do. I hope that the lab report will be good and that the Vet was able to get clean margins. (((Boo)))

Thank you for your well wishes. We got Boo home this evening and the poor thing is hurting....I can tell. Just gave her a pain pill at 7pm, and carried her (75lbs) to my bed. She has always slept with me, and it isn't going to change, even if I have to pick her up by myself. She looks so sad. I will keep you posted on the labs....will know in about 10 days.
Thank you for the well wishes BoxerSue. Today is Saturday and she is doing a little better today. The incesion (sp?) is oozing a bit, but she is keeping it clean. She regained her wiggle-butts back yesterday afternoon, so she is getting back to her sweet little perosnality. It just killed me to see her so out of sorts. But, like I said .....she is coming around. I will post to let you all know when we get the results. Thanks again.....
I took her yesterday for a wound check. The skin is kinda tight where the wound is, but we are hoping that she will heal ok without restitching. I will take her back again on thursday for another wound check. The vet put her on a mild sedative to keep her from kidney beaning all over the place. She doesn't feel well, but still has the wiggle butts thing going when "dad" gets home. So I am trying to keep her calm for a few days to give her leg a chance to heal. The thought of having to put her under again to restitch...well you can imagine.
Thank you all for the well wishes and healing thoughts. God Bless....
Voodoo needed to be restiched - I've gotta tel you it really wasn't so bad. They didn't even have to knock her out. They gave her some valium and apparently she just lay there and let them do it.
Not yet, the vet said a week to 10 days. We live in a very rural area in South Carolina, so they have to send it off. A week will be this thursday, so I figure at the latest it will be by monday. I did find out that if we do elect to do the chemo thing, I have to take her to Columbia, SC which is about an hour from here. My vet does not do the chemo in her office.
IC - actually I live in a very urban area and it took that long for the test results. We wanted sub grade level results so we sent the samples off the the Univeristy of Michigan.
As far as chemo goes -wait and see what happens. Chemo does not necessarily mean needing to be at the vet for administration - often it is just a pill you can give at home. Radiation on the other hand is entirely different.
Take it one step at a time - you and Boo Boo are in my thoughts, I know how tough this is!
The key word was "TRY" LOL! I didn't say I was succeeding!!! ROFL! She is doing pretty good, with the sedatives. But there are times when I have to keep a hold of her and get her to stop wiggling so hard. We shall see tomorrow, what the vet says.
It is hard to keep a Boxer down. Try is all you can do!! LOL Sending continued good thoughts and healing white light to miss Boo-Boo. Praying for clear margins and a low grade mast cell.
Once you get the pathology report, you can determine any further treatment protocol, as necessary. I would suggest you look into immune supportive supplements, and possibly a daily regimen of Benadryl. But first we need the report...

Just got back from a wound check for Boo. It seems the wound has stopped draining and we will restitch on tuesday. Now for the good news, the report came back from the lab and Boo does not have cancer. It was a tumor, but not cancer. When the vet came in and told me, I broke into tears. I want to take a moment and thank all of you for prayers and well wishes. Thank you. It has been a tough week or so and it has been comforting to have individuals who love their boxers like I love mine give me such kind words and support. Thank you again, I will never forget it.

Boo has been restitched and is healing nicely. I was afraid that the original wound would leave this huge scar, but the vet did a wonderful job and with a little luck and the use of the cream she gave me, I think the scarring will be at a minimum. She is back to her little wiggle butts self and I couldn't be more pleased. Because the area on her leg is pulled so tight, I was originally afraid that this thing would just keep pulling open, but so far so good. Thank you again for all of your well wishes.

I am very pleased to hear that her leg is doing well and healing, now!

Just saw your postings about Boo. I am so glad it all turned out right. My 14 year old female Buttons has had many, many tumors removed. One was on the right hand leg and they said it was magligment. However, that was two years ago and she is doing fine.
We had about 12 tumors removed the first time and just went through another round of 9. None of these were bad.
So, just keep your eyes open and your chin up. My Buttons is still going strong!
