Hi, my name is Carol. I got my first boxer over 50 years ago. Her name was Duchess. She was the smartest, funniest dogs I've ever had. My family home was in city limits, but it had not been populated yet. So, we were comfortable letting her stay in the back yard during the day. Most of the time someone was home with her and going in and out. She also had Boston Terriors to play with.
One day however, we weren't home, she decided it was time to eat. She jumped the fence went down to the neighbors (about 1/2 block), scratched at the front door. The lady let her in. Duchess went to the kitchen, sat down and looked at her. So the neighbor feed her. Then Duchess, went back to the front door, again looked at the lady. She let the dog out, who returned home, jumped back over the fence and was sitting there waiting for us when we got home. We would never have known, if the neighbor hadn't called the next day.
Have only had two boxers since then, because of my past spouse. I now have a 14 year old female and a 3 year old male.
Hello Carol, welcome! What a cute story! It sounds so typical of a boxer's mentality! LOL We would love to see photos of your 2 boxers. Having a 14 YO boxer is awesome! I sure do love those grey faced beauties!

I am so full of stories about my first boxer, Duchess.
Since I was an only child, this dog had never been around babies. My cousins were all a few years older than me, had gotten married early and had babies. We were having a faimly BBQ in the backyard and one of the babies was outside on a quilt and just beginning to crawl
We needed to run in the house for just a minute to get some stuff for the BBQ. Since the dog was the only who would still be in the yard, I jokingly said to her, "Watch the baby, Duchess".
I heard the baby make an "uhn" (complaining) sound through the open window, looked out to see Duchess, standing over him from the back, legs straddling him, he was trying to crawl off the quilt and she was gently pulling him back, holding on to the top of his diaper!
As I said she had never been around babies very much and certainly was never taught to do anything like this!
Great Story... Our first Boxer, Shiva, was rehomed with us when she was 18 months old Grew up in an adult household. My children at the time were 18 months and 5 y.o. Shiva was the best babysitter we have ever had. Never more than 3 feet away from the children at all times. I still believe that she was smarter than we were at that stage of our lives.
