Cooper's story
Permalink

Since I posted pictures, I figured I would post Cooper's story and how he came into my life.  To the best of my knowledge he story starts like this.  Cooper was purchased at a petstore (puppy mill dog) by a young man, and when he was taken home, his parents said "NO WAY", so this young man sold Cooper to another young man who was interested in breeding him.  After the second guy purchased him he brought him to the clinic because he thought he might be sick.  Not only was he sick, but he had pneumonia.  I started him on antibiotics and wanted to recheck him in a week.  A week later the second young man's friend came in to ask some questions about Cooper.  He was watching Cooper while the friend was out of town and the dog seemed to be getting worse.  He called the owner, but they didn't want to spend anymore money on the dog was were thinking about taking him to the animal shelter.

The humane society here will automatically put down sick owner surrenders, not to mention there is a virulent respiratory outbreak here and 3 shelters have closed there doors and PTS every dog in the shelter trying to get rid to the thing.  Cooper's fate was sealed if he went to the HUS and at 17 weeks old, I had to give him a chance.  When I found out the owner's plan, I contacted his friend and had the owner call me and give me permission over the phone to take this pup as my own.

Cooper is pretty much over the pnumonia now, had a really rough time of it, but now he's loosing hair due to demodextic mange, so we've started treatment for that.  I took him in as a foster with no intention on keeping him, but  I really need to sit and talk with my husband about that.  With 3 dogs I don't really want another, but with all of my dogs being seniors it kind of seems like time for a puppy, so who knows.

Thank goodness you came to his rescue!  He's got such a wonderful face!  What a handsome boy.  I sure hope you keep him, if not I know you will find the perfect home for him (after seeing those pics I'm ready to raise my hand to take him).

You are so good, Belynda. to take this young Boy home with you.
That Respiratory Crude is really awful. I hope that you can convince DH that one more Boxer would be a great permanent addition to your K-9 Family and hey, didn't you want a young'in to start some competing with?????? Whatever the outcome, I know you will do what is absolutely best for Cooper.

I couldn't think of a better place if he ends up not staying. His little bald self looks so pathetic right now, but he is so happy. He only coughs at night when he's sleep now, which is wonderful. One of our drug reps is mailing me some medicine (I talked to him today) and I'm going to try something different for mange. It's an off lable use of a new flea medicine. There is a slight chance of a reaction, but no more than dipping him, maybe less. I just don't think the ivermectin is working and the dips make me sick.

Oh goodness he just pooted and it smells like rotten eggs. What in the world did he find in the yard to eat this morning :::gag:::
