I don't know if it's a matter of popularity as much as a matter of who is Breeding what. I have 2 brindles and 1 fawn. It seems to me that there are a bit more fawns whelped than brindles...(also seems that over the years the Fawn classes at Dog Shows are a bit larger?).............someone want to jump in here. I don't have any statsitic and am not an expert.

I personally have a preference for fawns. I've had only two brindles in the past 20 some years. Although I must admit Rob and I have been considering getting a brindle lately. Hmmm...
I have met many people who prefer brindles and many who have both.
I've been to alot of shows in the past 10 years, to me there seems to be pretty much an equal amount of fawns and brindles in the open classes...
I think alot is just personal preference.

Another question, Phylis. Having had Boxers for 30+ years myself, and the majority have been fawn, do you notice a difference in personality in the Brindles as opposed to the Fawns?

My one brindle boy (more like a frindle) was killed by a wild cat (while living in Fl). He was a very young dog, under 2. What I can remember of his personality it seems the same as my fawns. Heidi died at age 12. She was a "talker", very sweet and got very stoic as she aged. I hadn't noticed any difference.
I do see differences between the individual dogs here. But on the whole they show the same boxer traits.

Speaking of brindle's..I have seen more reverse brindles in the last few years...very dark black brindle. IMO, a flashy dark reverse brindle is very striking.
Max is my 1st brindle. One of the reasons is, I absolutely fail in love with his sire the moment I saw him at age 7 months.
But I agree, it's about 50/50 for fawns & brindles...Guess the only way to see for yourself is go to a very large show, like the nationals, where there are about 500 plus boxers, and you can see whats out there. Everyone has their personal perference...
As far as what color, I prefer Brindle, my frist two boxers were brindle..the first one, more a dark brindle, the 2nd was a light brindle... My current two are white...love them too, (more than I can say) but my favorite color is brindle... Nancy, Stella and Stevie...(my white kids)
Neither Brindle, Fawn or White are any more or any less popular. Many people do have a personal preference, but even that can change over time. I have personal preference for fawns, but have owned several brindles. LOL---I quickly figured out they are all just Boxers under that fur :)
