New Boxer Owner Here...

Good Morning.

While I am completely new to Boxers, I am NOT new to forums. My name is Dane Skirtech and I am a Forum NUT. I am currently an Active Moderator on Dodgetalk.com.

Wow, I was so pumped to find a forum on boxers and I have been lurking for a while reading a bunch. I am probably going to be this sites biggest nightmare as I love to post, and I know absolutely NOTHING about the Boxer breed other then the little bit of conflicting information I have found on the net.

I am in Mississippi, and an avid dog lover and trainer. I train labradors for upland and retrieving. I currently have 1 working female lab named Piper who is my pride and joy.

This is Tango. I got him last weekend from a very good friend in Memphis. If my research is correct, I believe this is a Fawn and Black Boxer, 11 weeks old, and full of spunk. I cant wait to get know some of you and learn as much as I can! Sorry for the low quaity images. I was in a hurry this morning and my cell phone images are all I had!

Welcome to Tango and daddy ! (I am guessing you are a dude? )

The sweet face will melt your heart. But don't trust it. LOL--there is danger in that Boxer smile :)

HAHA! Thanks, and Yes, Im the proud Dad. The older I get, the more intrigued I have become at the vastly different personalities I see from different breeds of dogs. My Stafordshire Terrior was COMPLETELy different than my lab, and this little guy is going to prove to be no different. I am simply amazed at how "Aware" and "Clever" he seems to be. VERY easy to handle and is learning faster than I can teach. Mischievious, energectic, EXTREMELY loving (moreso than any other dog I have owned, and I didnt think anything could beat a Labs affection).

THis little guy is VERY vocal, and seems to be attached to my wife and little girl (10). he greets me daily when I come home, but after a short session of love and kisses, he is looking for Momma or my daughter. There he stays until bed time.

I am really pumped about the new pup!

A warm welcome you, Dane, and little (not for long) Tango.

I compete in Obedience with my Boxers. Each has been so diversely different yet thoroughly
loyal and loving. In my experience, my guys do not like overtraining. Sort of like, "I got it, I did it correctly 3 times, why would I possibly want to do this again?" They then have the propensity to do things "there way" after this...so to speak.

Good luck with Tango!

Thaks for the advice. I like to use the "Frequency" and not "Lengthy" approach to training as well. I have found (with labs) that shorter more frequent drills have better results than 1 hour sessions. Just as a small child, its hard to hold their attention span long!

The boy dogs seems to gravitate towards the women in a household. Obviously I have no problem with that :) The girls like their daddies. But both genders are typically smart and very biddable. (read bribable )

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

Here are some updated photos of our little guy. House training is almost 100% now. He is Recalling well, and knows his name. He responds well to "NO" even though you can tell he doesnt like it! HA! This breed is a HOOT!
