I took Daisy to the vet today because we noticed a red bump on her toe. The vet checked it right away and said it was a mass cell. They will remove it tomorrow morning. She has only had it less than a week and it is only the size of my babay fingernail. The vet said we caught it real early and that it was good that it was so small. Please keep her in your healing thoughts tomorrow. I am so scared. Thanks!
Mast cells and Boxers are a common thing. The best thing you can do is identify them and remove them asap. External tumors are the easiest thing to deal with. So don't panic and simply follow the vet's advice.
Crystal had 2 removed over her 12-1/2 years. She never had a problem afterwards. They are only an issue if they are internal. And of course now, you will have to spoil your girl completely rotten after her surgery :)

Thank you Christina. You have brought my panic level down. As for Daisy she could care less. Not paying any attention to it at all. Appetite is very good and it hasn't slowed her down one bit! I just heard the words "mass cell" and paniced. The vet was very assuring but I was in my panic mode and also had to make sure he would not use Ace. He didn't believe me about the Ace and asked that I bring him some literature from another veternarian but he assured me that he would not use Ace. As a matter of fact he just called me a little while ago to see how I was and to re assure me on the Ace. He is a really good vet that I just changed over to a few months ago. He also lives above his practice so he is always on call, which I like. So I will drop Daisy off at 9am tomorrow with a load of literature for him. Thanks again
Sending the best thoughts for Daisy and her surgery tomorrow. You noticed this quickly and are doing something positive about it immediately.............that is the best thing to do with a Mast Cell. (((Marion & Daisy)))

Many vets will argue the ACE debate. However there are so many types of anesthesia they can use that most just go with something else. However it never hurts to print out Dr Wendy Wallner's article on Acepromezine (God rest her soul).
