Well, I took Daisy in to have her stitches removed Saturday as it has been 10 days and I had the other vet ( It is a Husband and wife) look at Daisy ( The Wife) The husband did the surgery. She would not take the stitches out because she said the paw was all swollen and not healed yet. I had just changed the dressing on the stitches and wrapped it to come there and the paw was not swollen. When we got to the vets they took her into another room (right next door so I could hear them. She never greeted Daisy all I heard was a few grunts and stay still and then she came right out and told me she wasn't going to remove them and gave me more anitbiotics. She still has 4 more days to go on the first batch and she gave me 5 more days on top of that. So I asked how much longer and then she said she didn't know and also did I realize that I would have to keep her cone on for at least 4 -5 weeks after the stitches come off because she was a obsessive licker. I just reacted and said "WHAT!!!" "Thats rediculus for that long" Then she told me that paw injuries are hard to heal and that I should be keeping her quiet as possible ( Which I have been doing) Then she asked if I crate her. I said yes I do when I am at work but when I do I do not ever leave her collar on and as the cone is hooked on her collar I could not do that. She then informed me that I should be crating her 24 -7 for the next 3-4 weeks. I said "Impossible". She then said "Well if you don't care about your dog then don't" I then held up my hand in her face and said " I am done talking to you. I will take her to another vet, and will never step a foot in here again!" She then said "Well I can't help it if you don't love your dog." I stormed out and cried all the way home. When I got home I took the bandage off and her paw was red and swollen to about twice the size of the other one. I immediatlly called the other vet here in town. They were closed (It was Saturday) but she told me to give her an asprin and soak the paw in warm water with a little epson salt. Do it 2 times on Sunday and then call first thing Monday and bring her in. So we did that on Saturday and she woke me up this morning with hives all over her. So no asprin today and just warm water and the hives have gone down alot. I will be on the phone at 8am when they open. I already called my boss to let her know I might not be in. The swelling is all gone and the stitches look a whole lot better. Anyways thanks for letting me vent. Maybe I was wrong but I have not been satisfied with these 2 vets since the surgery and the way they sent her home. I am hoping this other vet will be much better. She was very helpful on the phone. Wish us luck tomorrow!!!!
I am so sorry that you were treated in this manner, Marian. This does not sound very caring to me. I hope that Daisy's foot is better today and your visit to the new Vet will be much kinder and productive.

Unprofessional to say the least. However there was a grain of truth in the licking part. I know it seems horrible to crate with a cone, but I had to deal with it with Booker T. Booker T had an eye injury and had to wear a cone for several months. I felt sorry in the beginning and "trusted" him. BIG mistake. I made it worse and he made it worse. So we almost lost his eye because of my soft heart.
Boy did I heard it from the eye specialist! She was not nearly as mean as your vet, but I did get an talking down to. And in my mind, I deserved it. LOL--at least to a degree. All it took was the warning the eye was going to have to come to get me back on line. I took him to work with me for 4 months. I figured that if he had to be crated and coned, it was better in my office at work. It took a total of 6 months, but we saved that eye. $4,000+ later of course.
I hope the new vet has a better bedside manner. And I hope you are able to keep her from licking the incisions. We need her to heal so she can bounce again :)

Just a quick update... Daisy is no longer a cone head! Foot is all healed. The second vet was super!!! After he took out the stitches We still kept the cone on her to let it heal a little bit more and I caught her licking at it and it was still really red so I took her back in for the vet to check out. We took the cone off and she gave her paw a good licking and then left it alone. So off comes the cone and no more licking. Daisy is one happy puppy dog!!!!!! It was pure joy to watch her run in the back yard. I am glad it is all over though!! Oh yeah forgot to tell you, The new vet saw her twice and didn't charge me anything!
HooRay for Daisy! It sounds as if all will be well now and also that you've found a new, kinder, caring Vet.
