My husband and I spent my Thanksgiving with my family in Pleasanton. I have a rather large family whom enjoys food :). We feasted on turkey, ham, various salads, candied yams, scalloped potatoes (personal favorite), and a ton of dishes that spanned tables running on both sides of the dining room. Pre-snacks were everywhere and I brought my traditional deviled eggs. Desert included, of course, HUGE pies. We have grown quite fond of Costco baked pies and no one complains over having them versus one of us baking. Costco is simply that good :)
Sadly my aunt's father passed away a couple of days ago. It was her house we had the dinner and he has been living with her for several years. He has been sick for a long time. A dear sweet man whom I have always considered another Grandpa for me since I was little. We used to spend personal time in the summer as I would ride my bicycle to his home just one town over and spend entire days. He was an avid gardener as was I. And he was just a dear emotional man. I loved him so much. We will have his rosary on Monday and bury him the following day. Relatives from Hawaii have already begun arriving. I pray he is now at peace.
Happy news was my godson was back from Iraq. I did not know he could make it back in time for Thanksgiving but he was there. He gave riveting stories about his time spent overseas. He is a member of the Navy Seals.
How was everyone else's Thanksgiving?

Please accept my condolences on the passing of your Aunt's Father. It sounds as if you really loved spending time with him when you were growing up. How nice that your Godson could be home for Thanksgiving. My prayers will be with this young man. Our Thanksgiving was very nice. We joined my Son's family and In-Laws at my Son's home this year. They cooked the Turkey and his MIL and I brought all the side dishes and desserts. We all had a wonderful time. We took Pilot with us and he was just the best Baby. Played with my grandsons, pottied outside and stayed in his crate while we ate without one peep out of him. Turkey sandwiches tonight and that's the end of the Turkey!!!

Christina, Please accept my sincere sympathy on your loss.
How wonderful that your Godson made it back from IRAQ in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. Now that is truely something to be thankful for!
My Thanksgiving was tranquil, and delicious. My aunt and I decided to forgoe the traditional dinner with my Brother and SIL... and the hords of people they always invite (picture 16-20 people in a small 3 BR house). I was the main cook, with my aunt helping with prep and potato peeling. We had the usual feast... turkey, stuffing, potatos and gravy, etc... yummmm Followed by a dose of Dr McDreamy... yummmm again.

LOL!!!! I was thrilled to make it back in time to watch Survivor. Funny how we hate to break our normal traditions :)
Thank you both for the thoughts on the loss of Abel. The rosary is Monday and it will not be easy to see him in the casket. However I am certain his spirit will be looking down on us gathering in his honor and memory. I have a lovely set of rosary beads given me by my grandmother so many years ago. It is always tucked away for just such occasions. And during such times, I am reminded of her spirit. Even if I stumble over the correct rosary prayer (thankfully I am rather rusty), I know she would forgive me :)

I am so sorry for your loss, Christina. It sounds like he was a wonderful man. You never know who will make an imprint on your life. My condolences.
But, how wonderful that your godson was able to be with you for Thanksgiving. My friend's son has been there twice, and it's been nerve-wracking. Thankfully, he is home now.
We had a great Turkey day! I did all the cooking...Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday...and my dad and brother and his family were with us, and my SIL's father, and his walker...LOL He's dangerous with that thing!
We had the usual guests over, although this year we only made the turkey. EVerything else was brought by guests. I live in a different state, so I didn't get there until an hour before the meal. It was worth the wait - we had cornbread stuffing and my aunt's famous lemon merengie pie.
On the way home on the train, I met a man with two boxers - half siblings the same age. The male, Cesear, had a lovely black mask (he was a plain brindle which I am a sucker for) and Maddie the female already was a bit silver.
