Blood in the stool can mean many things.  Some innocuous, some not.  You need to notify your vet.  A young dog can go downhill much faster than an adult.

Hopefully your pup just had a hard stool or possibly passed something it shouldn't have eaten (like a twig), and scratched the colon.

If the pup has not been fully wormed, it should be done ASAP.

I would do as Christina suggests,  explain what's going on and make an appointment with your Vet and take in a fecal sample.

The flood is fresh blood not old brown blood. He does nibble on sticks all the time whick could be one answer. He is up to date with all his working and we have just changed his diet as it was seemingly disagreeing with his stomach (lots of little poo's).
Most recently his stools have been more solid and not as often which is a good sign, and i havent noticed anymore blood.

he goes to the vet this week for his vaccination so we will investigate with the vet too.
