Hi everyone!

This may seem like a bit of a weird topic, but I'm interested to hear what brands owners in the UK & Ireland are feeding their dogs.  My 11 month old bitch is currently on Hill's Science Plan, which she seems to really like and which I thought she was doing very well on.  However, a couple of people on another forum I visit mentioned that they didn't think it was a great quality food, and recommended some other brands.

However, the problem I have is that practically all of these other brands are only available in the US!

Anyone from a bit closer to home (I'm in Dublin!) have any recommendations???  And is Hill's really that bad?

I can't help over what is available in the UK, but I am very curious about what types of food you typically have back there. Science Diet is not bad food actually. They have changed the formula over time and it is not as "good" as it was, but I don't believe it is a bad food either. And you can always add home cooking to balance it out.

Hi Christina

The main foods available here in Ireland are:

Pedigree Chum
Purina
Eukanuba
IAMS
Red Mills
Hill's Science Plan
Royal Canin
Arden Grange

Then there are a lot of smaller brands like Chappy, Winalot, etc., but I'd put most of them in the same grade as Pedigree - i.e. wouldn't buy them.

I've decided to change Tink to Arden Grange and see how that goes.

I fed Pedigree for over 10 years without a single problem. It was only through circumstance I switched to Pro Plan. I have no doubt ingredients and nurition vary by country. Even for the same brand. Look for less by-products and more real egg, beef, lamb, chicken, fish, etc. And never be afraid to add some of your own home cooking to the mix.

My Boxers both get home cooking in their meals at least a couple of times a week. Or like last night, each got 1/2 a hard boiled egg as a treat :)
