Upset over here...it's Bobby
Permalink

Some of you know, that we got our boxer Bob when he was 11 months old, he was rehomed, with a lot of issues to deal with....he was in a three month training program, we have been working with him daily for 6 years....he made tons of progress...but in the last two days, he's sort of regressed.
He bit my neighbor.....I had both Bob and Stella on a double lead, we were heading out for a walk, our neighbor knows Bob very well.....she was outside, came up to me to say something, she put her hand near Bob, like to say hello, he went for her...he just nipped her, as I yanked him back and put him in a sit stay....so he didn't break the skin, it was a nip.

That was yesterday.
Today, Gary was walking both of them...a lady with her very young son were passing Gary and Bob lunged at the kid...Gary really yanked him back....put them both in a sit/stay....
He's been to the Vet for a wellness check about a month ago...he checked out fine.
Help....now what?

Nancy

Hey Nancy...
I would double check Bob's head (ears, eyes, mouth) for anything that might be hurting him.  You should be able to do it yourself... smell his ears, check for redness, etc.  and the same with his mouth.
If you don't see anything out of the ordinary, then I would proceed with some remedial training... on leash, out in public, without Stelly.  Walking two dogs at once, it can be difficult to notice some little "trigger" that may have made Bob feel afraid.  Also, there is a chance that Bob is trying to protect Stelly, for some reason.
Have either of your daughters walked the dogs recently?  Maybe something happened on one of their walks?  I am sure others will have some more ideas...

Hi Nancy,
I'm really sorry to hear that Bob has regressed a bit.
After ruling out any physical issue, I would go back to walking him by himself.
I am the only one who can walk Tanner and Zammi together successfully.
Even on the prong, Zammi will give Jim a problem at times when he walks the Boys.
He doesn't snap or lunge at people, but other dogs or animals, he becomes a hand ful1.
I would try some basic obedience with him again, one on one.
Let us know how it goes.
Bev

Hi Susan,
He's fine with his ears, when he has a problem with his ears, it's yeast....but for now, his ears are clean, mouth is fine as well...

Took your advice and have been doing solo OB walks...with him....in the morning, for about an hour...and afternoon walks with Stelly....

I think you hit the nail on the head........he's protecting Stelly....he did this years ago, when she was a puppy, he seems to be doing this again....I don't know why I didn't notice this before...but there is a big difference....when I walk the two of them and then solo....they love their walks together....

They like to take Bobby on his own, because they both like to run on the sand at night....so, he's their running buddy....LOL, he can be trusted to run off lead, and come when they call him....and he's got better endurance than Stella....

With working with him one on one, I want to get him back to where he's fine in public with Stella...as in busy, skate boards, strollers, bikes, lots of people....so, right now, he has a morning walk with me, and afternoon walk with Stella....the walk with her right now, is more isolated, I'll work up to a 'busy' walk with the two of them, right now he needs to be fine tuned...
Thanks for the advice!!

Hugs, Nancy Bobby and Stella
