Tragedy has struck a dear friend and I ask you all keep her and her pets in your thoughts. Susan had an accident and the house she was living in burnt to the ground. The fire started in the early morning hours. She was sleeping in bed and was barely able to get out in her pajamas with her dogs. She tried to get her 3 kitties, but they were hiding in terror and she could not get them. She said the house went up in a matter of minutes and there was nothing she could do.

She was able to get Lacey and Cassius out safely. As well as Bowie whom she is fostering for Rescue. A bit later they did find one of the new kittens scared outside. Susan had opened the windows and prayed the kitties would try to escape. Sadly she lost Osiris and one of the new kittens. If you remember, she only just lost Ramses, Osiris' brother, when a Rescue she was fostering ripped him apart and killed him. This has not been a good year in the Curry household.

Susan is safe and staying with her brother who lives local. The Boxers and kitten are staying at the vet clinic she works parttime at. So all are safe. Susan has today off and will be returning to her home to see if she can salvage anything. Her aunt took her shopping yesterday to buy a few clothing essentials since she has literally nothing to wear.

I was just at Susan's with Brandi a few weeks ago. I met the kittens for the first time as well as her foster Boxer, Bowie. Susan must now collect her thoughts and look for a new pet friendly home to live. Please do keep her and her pets in your thoughts. Susan has given so much to so many people over the years and has always had a caring heart. Must softer than mine at times. She is strong and will get on. Of that I have no doubt.

I have received a few emails from people asking if there is anything they can do. Right now, Susan and the kids are safe. Her immediate needs are of course clothes and women stuff. There is a huge Mervyn's near her she has been going to for the first emergency things (you can guess) she needed immediately. Remember, she got out on with her PJ's and her cell phone along with the dogs. All her clothes are ruined if not by the fire then by the smoke. Pants, shorts, tops, socks, under garments, sweaters, coats, etc. are all gone.

If anyone would like to send her a Mervyn's gift certificate, that would be something she could seriously use right now and even later. I might be able to find my way to helping her shop (twist my arm). No obligation at all folks! But just if you want to, you can send whatever you wish to me and I will get it to Susan.

I just got off the phone with her.  She has not been able to bring herself to return to the house yet. I am hoping that at least photos and such may be able to be salvaged. Happily I still have Lacey's original puppy photos on my computer since I went with Susan to the airport to pick her up so many years ago :)

Hi Chirstina,

I just sent her a donation to her brothers apartment, I'm just so so sad, that this has happened to her, it's just horrible, I froze when I got her e mail about the fire.

I had no idea it broke out while she was sleeping.

I'm so sorry about her two losses, I remember when her other cat was killed....your right, this has not been a good year for her.

Thank you smile.gif
She and the fur kids will survive. In all the years I have known her, she has rarely ever asked for anything. Susan is definitely one of the most generous people I have ever met. Even when a fostered Rescue killed her beloved Ramses, she still found it in her heart to foster another rescue. Of course making sure this time it did not have a bad history with felines.

I love Boxers. But if that had happened to me, I would have simply sent Rescue a check and never fostered again. And no one could blame me. But Susan thinks of others ahead of herself and Bowie has been with her over a month I believe, as she looked for his forever home. And of course she gives up precious vacation time when I have a litter to whelp. Though if you ask her, I don't think I could keep her away smile.gif

I've only met Susan and her aunt one time, but in the almost 7 years that I've known her 'online', I can see what a generous person she is, she's been a very helpful and good friend to me....'online'.....

My thoughts and prayers go out to her.

I know she's a very strong woman, and she will get through this....

This is such a horrible tragedy for Susan.
I've already sent her a donation to use however she wishes.
She is in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Susan visited the house today. She was able to salvage photos. She said the albums were a bit messed up but she believes she can take the photos out relatively safely. Most everything is ruined. Either by fire, smoke or water.

LOL---one small miracle. As an afterthought she checked her dryer. She had clothes in there that were untouched. They did not smell like smoke or had any problems at all. considering the dryer was at the back of the house and of course is pretty sealed, it ended up making the perfect hidey hole for some of her older clothes.

Always be grateful for small things :)
