I've been searching hi/lo for this information, but have been unable to find anything to muy likings. I just purchased a 3 month old female boxer, and want to know some helpful tips in selecting a vet for her. I don't know what all needs done to her, and am not familiar with the vaccines. So I just wanted to see if I could get a piece of mind by asking these questions:
Tips on finding a good vet?
What really need to be done on the first few visits?
I'm sure the vet clinics will be glad to help me out on the second question, but I figured I would prepare myself a little too! Cause I have called a few already, and there are some decent prices and there are some expensive prices....whats the difference...nothing just trying to make a profit?
Also I have called a few and one told me if you plan on have her de-wormed you don't need to have a stool sample done? That's what made me want to find out myself?
Call the most local vet office. Tell them you have a Boxer puppy and do they have other clients with Boxers. The only true way you will be able to figure out a good vet is to just go. Unless your breeder can assist you of course. Hopefully you have already asked them.
No puppy needs to be wormed unless they have worms. There is nothing wrong with taking in a suspicious stool sample to be tested. But if her poops are firm, then she is fine :)

So she won't need de-wormed unless I find them in stool or vomit? See, there you go, I just learned something. Is there any other helpful tips that I should watch for. Just so much that I don't know, I want to be armed before I go so I will know....you know! The breeder told me of a vet, but kinda far away, she was concerned with the price. Now after coming to the site, I'm led to believe they might have been a bogus breeder, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. It might be my fault too for not researching boxers before purchase. I did a little research, but after further research after purchase I'm a little concerned. They were good people by all means, but once again I'm just a little concerned about a few things...otherwise known as a worry-wart!
Sorry for the long post.
Heck while I'm at, real quick, have you ever heard/seen of a boxer nipple in the middle of a females belly. One of her nipples looks a little different(bigger) and is in the middle of her stomach?
That's not a nipple. It's where her imbilical cord was attached to the placenta.

thank you very much for the replies. On to the next question....pee. (not sure if I should be starting new threads or just keepthis one going?) When she is done peeing, she has a little bit stuck to here lil hairs down there. I have cleaned it off a couple times and it's very slimey...not like pee I'm used to seeing...not much... just a dribble that sticks. Anyone want to chime in on this, to help my nervous system out? :)
I'm happy to say that we got an appointment with a vet on Friday afternoon, anything I should ask the vet about or pay close attention to?
Once again, thanks you guys, I hope you guys don't think Im weird, I just want whats best for my Baby!
I wish I could go back in time... it was much easier being a kid and just playing with your dog and letting parents take care of the grown-up stuff....now I'm older and I got to take care of the dog and then play with her!

No, I did not say that. In some cases you won't even see the worms. In the more advanced cases you will. If her stool is soft, then there is cause for concern. If it is soft for say 2-3 days, take a sample into the vet. If she is vomiting for any reason, be concerned. If she vomits more than, say, twice in a single day - take her in.
Diarreah and vomiting will quickly cause dehydration which can kill a young puppy. Let her drink as much water as her little heart desires :)
