Next summer my significant other and I will be setting out to adopt a puppy/dog from a shelter. Although we will probably not be getting a purebreed we would love to know what sort of dog would fit cozily into our lifestyle. Here's the information about the life our new addition would be experiencing:
House: Room to roam around, never tied or chained. Mainly inside, but will be outside some. Exercise isn't a problem, we jog our boxer and played frisbee with our late shepherd.
Family: Two regular humans, occasional young people, two cats (both fixed), a female spayed boxer, and a fish.
Socialization: The pets we currently have are rarely without human contact, no more than an hour a day or so. When they are without humans they won't be without other animals.
Training: Somewhat easily trained. We don't care to work with it, of course.
Guard/Watch Dog: Our dogs we've had always bark at newcomers (we sadly have 'poachers' with our wildlife and this helps us out..) but never bite. Our new dog doesn't have to have guarding instincts, it will catch on to the barking just like the others.
My other just lost his beloved dog Luke, a chow-chow/shepherd mix. Although we aren't picky about appearance we would probably like a dog with more fur, but we like large dogs.. So the perfect new dog would be furry and have a lot to love =]
You guys have seemed to be really helpful in the past, so I confided with you for help with this =D

I would think perhaps any breed with a Lab-x would do. Or if you are looking smaller, perhaps a terrier-x. The shelters usually have dogs of so many different sizes. I almost got a lab-terrier-x years ago before I got my first Boxer. But the first person who had their name down for him got him just before my husband and I.
