I bought my boxer last night and am tring to come up withj a name. The thing is, I have the papers to register her, of which I've never done with a dog. Any suggestions on naming where registration is a concern? Does the name I call her have to be exactly the one she is registered with? As I've said, I have not registered before and not sure the best way to go about this.
Hi & welcome..Can't wait to hear more about your girl...As for the name. her registered name & call name do NOT have to be the same. Her call name doesn't have anything to do with her registered name. As for a registered name, did you get her from a breeder.?? what are her parents registered names..?? Kennel name.?? I guessing that your not sure about all of this. Her papers should have her parents name on them. That would be something to go by. Her call name can be anything you want to call her. Something that "fits" her.
Hope I have helped...please share more info about your new girl..:)
My one dog was registered by my stepfather. He wanted her call name in there, although that isn't common. It was apparently a "spice litter" and thus she became something something (can't remember the first part) Nutmeg Willow. Christina on here had a dog who had the same registered and call name, Booker T, but that isn't common. Did your breeder give you any restricitions?

For the Lost
Registered name: Since your breeder left it up to you, this what I have seen some people do. Once you get a call name, you can call her like you would your daughter. Example: Faleh Delacruz. A friend named her spayed Lab female this. Faleh is her call name and Delacruz is the family's last name.
Call name: That is very personal. Watch her for several days and see what pops into your head.
And welcome

This is true. Typically with show breeders the call name is not usually the same as the registered name. A good example would be my Brandi. Her registered name is PawPrint Talk To The Paw. LOL-clearly nothing to do with Brandi :)

My year old Boxer's Registered Name is Dusty Roads Walk'n On Air, his call name is Pilot. His call name keeps with the registered name's theme, i.e., walk'n on air - - Pilot. Do you have a limited registration? Many of us are very Pro Spay and Neuter if your dog is not to be shown in Conformation. I do show my dogs in Obedience anad Rally. They are all neutered males. Tanner will be competing next weekend for the 3 Leg to complete his CD.

Thanks for the info, everyone. We came up with her call name this weekend. She is "Maggie". Still working on her registered name. We are not limited by the breeder.
What Beverly meant by "limited" was Maggie's future for spay/neuter. Responsible breeders place their pet pups into homes with no breeding planned and on a non-breeding AKC registration. This is called a Limited Registration by the AKC. It simpy means the pup is definitely registered at a purebred but there are no plans to breed in the future.
