Rash/ Dry skin
Permalink

I have a question concerning dry/itchy skin.  This is kind of a follow up to the hives/bump thread....ever since we took her of the med for her hives she has a dry/itcy spot that she won't stop scratching!  I was wondering what should be done to prevent her from scratching herself?  It has got so bad that she lost some hair and has a lil rash/cut there?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance and have a merry christmas!

Wash the area with a mild soap or doggy shampoo. Dry it thoroughly. Apply a bit of neosporin and cover it... putting a t-shirt on might be the easiest. You need to keep her from scrathiching the spot raw. Also, I would add some extra oils to the diet. A tablespoon of olive, sunflower, or flaxseed oil daily is great for the skin. If it still fails to clear up, then it is possible there is a bacterial infection or even fungal and she might need extra meds... have her checked.

A tablespoon a day on her food?  Should I split that between meals, or all in one setting?  Thank you for the information.smile

On her food is perfect. You can give it all at once or split.. either way.
