Our puppy will puke/spit up to 5 times a day after his meals. We took him to the vet for his first check up and the vet said it could be something related to his esophagus. Has anyopne else experienced this before?
We were feeding him Healthy Choice 2-3 times a day. We feed him a little over 1 cup a day moistened up with a little bit of water. We changed his food today to "by Natural" and so far so good, no vomiting. The puppys stool was solid and looked like regular poop. Ill update and let everyone know how he reacts to his new food.
Let's hope the vomiting/spitting up issue had to do with eating too much or too fast at a sitting.
Megaesophagus (sp) is what I think your vet may have been referring to. In layman's terms it means the esophagus is over large or stretched out, making the musclular contractions that move food down it ineffective. This means the food does not make it to the stomach and after a bit of time, the dog will vomit or spit it back up. This leads to malnutrition. It can be managed somewhat, but it requires a dedicated owner. Fingers crossed this is not the case!
