hi guys and gals. greetings from deep sout texas (rio grande valley). well i have a 7 1/2 yr old femal boxer fawn coloring named Diva. she is the queen of our house. spoiled everyday w/ love. i hope to have some pictures up later on. im not good with computers and resizing pictures is something that has escaped my grasp so far :)
i also recently rescued a stray boxer this passed monday that wondered onto my yard. he was dirty, had fleas and ticks, an a little on the thin side. not starving just could stand to gain 15-20lbs. hes a gentle giant, im guessing hes around a yr old. he still looks young. had him checked over by my vet on tuesday, heartworm free, neg stool, and free from other major disease. they gave him all his vaccines, an meds for the fleas.
again hello from the RGV, and i hope to have some pictures of my dogs and update the condition of Wrigley (the stray rescued monday). /wave
Hi and a warm welcome to you, Diva and Wrigley. No one in your area has lost a Boxer? Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Welcome! It's good that you found Wrigley and are going to nurture him back to good health. Lucky guy to wonder into the yard of someone who cares! I'm sure Diva is loving having a playmate, too.

little bit of an update, no pictures yet but man me and Wrigley(rescue) had a rough afternoon. i thought he was gonna die on me. he was napping, woke up, stood up and was wondering around. then started to heave and heave but nothing would come up. then the poor guy was straining that he poo'd himself. so i immediately got scared, he went out side poo'd some more then stumbled around dry heaving. then he laid there, soon as he went down i grabbed my keys. i ran back, picked him up and noticed his gums were white as his teeth. then i nearly poo'd myself :) by the time i got him to a vet that would see him, tried 1 banfield @ pets mart they sent me to the one across town, he started to "come to" he was becoming more alert, breathing was better, u could see some pink coming back to his gums.
they were about to turn me away again, when i pleaded to have a nurse just come glance at him. few mins later a nurse came out, looked at his gums an said the doctor should look at it. well by then wrigley was almost back to normal, cept very sleepy. he didnt flinch when they checkd him temp. they ran blood work, every was negative. told me just to watch him, if he had another episode they'd do a ekg or something on him. was a scary afternoon. but seems like hes doing fine. running around fine with my old girl, who shouldnt be running around too much cuz her bad hip. :)
soon as i get a camera from my brother ill try and get some pictures up.
edit: i did check around to see if anyone was missing a dog. but i dont have many neighbors. also called the pound and left my info there as well as animal control incase someone called in looking for him. cuz at one point someone cared for him.
My guess is that he bloated. This fits alot of the symptoms. And yes, getting him to the vet ASAP is definitely the right thing to do. Keep your eyes on him after he eats and don't let him exercise much for at least 1 hour afterwards.
This does not sound like a heart issue as he would have simply passed out. Perhaps Susan will have another thought, but my bets are on bloat. It can kill if the stomach flips so you did the right thing!

These symptoms can be seen with bloat, as Christina suggested, or with a seizure. The word seizure always freaks people out, but seizures in dogs (all breeds) are quite common, and can include dry heaves, and loss of bowel control. A seizure doesn't necessarily have to be the traditiona "laying on the ground convulsing" thing we all expect. There are several different types of seizures, and most often, causes for them are never found. If seizures become repetitive, there are treatments to curtail or lessen the frequency and/or duration of seizures. Either way, definitely worth a trip to the vet.

**Boxers... not just dogs, they're an adventure!
well wrigley had another episode sunday afternoon. he was in the pen with my other boxer enjoying the day. i went to the window to take a peek and saw him heaving, so i went out. when i got to the pen, he was stumbling around heaving. then he fell over on his side and was kicking his legs. when i went in, he sorta snapped out of it, and stumbled over to me. i sat down and he just laid down next to me for few minutes. again his mouth was very pale. his gums and under his cheeks were very pale. also this time he hadnt just finished eating, he was running around with a toy and my other dog. so i kinda ruled out bloat. im thinking its seizures. this is his 2nd in 2 wks.
ive been trying to read up and have read some stuff that the white gums could be an indicator for a host of things.
anemia dehydration hypoglycemia
it was scary but im not sure what else to do. the color in his mouth comes and goes. ill check randomly throughout the day and sometimes its pale, other times is a nice pink/red, then back to pale. his demenor doesnt change when his gums/cheeks are pale. he still runs around and plays with my other dog. so im sorta lost now. im gonna call my vet later on today. keep you all posted.
Just my 2 cents..but it sounds more of a heart issue than bloat. Boo bloated 2 yrs ago, his gums were not white, he did not pass out. Was his stomach bloated..?? Was it hard to the touch..? Dogs who bloat usally do not want to sit or lay down, it put pressure on the stomach, they want to pace, can't get comfortable, lots of licking, gulping. As Susan said, have his heart checked..asap..! Keep us posted...!
