bumps?

Hi all,
My Emma has a bump on her back. I thought it might have been a bug bite (yes she is on a program for fleas etc but she loves to lay in the dirt sunning her self.) maybe pincher or spider. The bump is no bigger than any normal human bite. My husband is overly concerned about it (being that they are tumor dogs) and started picking at it. He thought it was an ingrown hair. Seems unlikley since they are covered with hair. As he was picking at it, puss came out. He cleaned it, peroxided and it seems to be drying up. The hair on it fell out only on the bump, not around the area. He thinks he has healed it, and I wasnt even concerned about it (it takes alot to get my attention after four kids) but now she has two more a couple of inches away. any of you encounter this? I dont think it is a bee sting since we have gone through that and she blew up like an elephant. She once was bit by a spider and developed really bad hives but no swelling. Nothing that benedryl didnt clear up. Do you think I should be giving her a dose of that daily since the alergies are bad here fight now?
any help is appreciated
Aricka

LOL---tell you hubby to stop picking at it. It is possible it is a fungal growth and hubby just allowed it to spread.

One rule of thumb with Boxers and bumps - when in doubt, take them to your vet. The vet can tell you quickly if it is a point of concern or not. There are soooooo many things that cause a bump. Yes, tumors are one of them. But there are alot of other possibilities.

I would do a quick visit to your vet and let them tell you what they believe it is. And then what treatment you can give.

This could posibly be a staph infection of the skin. Short story is you need to take the dog to the vet so they can do a skin scraping and other tests to figure out what the bumps are and the proper treatment for them. As Christina mentioned it could also be a fungal infection such as ring worm which can be very contagious to humans, so definitely get this checked.

it seems to be going away. We are literally taking it one day at a time. The first one is completely dried up and the hair is coming back. the other two are not pussing like the first one and hubby read your posts and will not pick at them..thankfully. I am hoping that she just got bit while sunning in my garden. I am going to give it a couple moroe days...let you know.
