Update on Daisy
Permalink

Hello all!  Sorry it has been so long since I posted. I have been having all sorts of computer problems.  I still am having problems trying to send pics so I can't send any at this time.  Daisy is getting so big!  She is your typical boxer gal!  Full of tons of energy and love!
We are taking her today to get spayed.  I hope all will turn out ok.  I really trust my vet but you still can't help but worry when you have to leave them at the vet.  I will have them clean her ears and clip nails at the same time.  I did order a dremel to do her nail as she really hates the clippers.  Just waiting for it to come but I figured they might as well trim her nails while she is under.  I get to pick her up around 5:30 and bring her home.  When I had Bacci done many years ago they kept them over night so I am unfamiliar with having to take care of her while she still will be groggy.  Kinda of nervous but she will get spoiled for a few days.
Our holidays went great!  I had all my family over and Daisy did great with a house full of people and kids.  I wanted to send pics of the Christmas tree this year.  It was only decorated from the top to about half way down the tree.  All in all she only ate 7 ornaments (didn't really eat them just chewed them up) and tipped the tree over once!  Never bothered any of the presents under the tree though!  Go figure?
We got her a big plastic ball from Meyers and she is just having a riot with it.  It is definetly an outside toy!
She has completed 3 obedience classes and did very well with all of them except when she meets other dogs all training goes out the window because all she wants to do is play.  We were at the local place where I get her food and she always goes in to say hello and another couple came in with a little Dauchsund puppy and she was jumping up at least 3 feet in the air right next to me with the boxer wiggle thrown in.  The dauchsund puppy wasn't intimidated in the least.  Everyone got a good chuckle out of them both.
Sorry this is so long but it has indeed been awhile.  I am still trying to get my picture sending thing all fixed.  I'm afraid I am going to have to get a new computer but have to save for it.  I will send pics as soon as I can!

Sounds as if all is well with Daisy. I know she will do very well during her Spay and come home to lots of TLC. May she heal quickly with no complications.
Can't wait to see new pictures of her!!!

Well everything went real well. Daisy is home and resting. She slept the rest of the day and evening yesterday. Didn't want any water or food. I did get her to lick my fingers after I kept dipping them into the water so she got a little bit anyways. It is now 12:45 and she just ate her food and drank some water and starting to act a little more like herself.
The vet game me some pain pills for 5 days and some ear medicine as she had a slight yeast infection in her ears (poor baby). Doesn't mind taking the pain pills but she does not like me to do the ear thing. Little does she know she has to get used to it. Ha Ha!
The vet also told me to keep her quite for 2 weeks. Yeah right! I'm supposed to take her out to potty on the leash for 2 weeks so she doesn't run around. Any thoughts on this anyone?
I will try my best to keep her calm. What is everyones opinon on how long to keep them calm?

The reason to keep her calm is to avoid overly stressing the sutures, and perhaps having the wound dehiss (sp?)- meaning coming back open. Too much activity can also cause irritation internally from the sutures, leading to serum pockets which may need to be drained with a needle. That said, we all know there is no way to keep a good boxer down, especially for two weeks.

For the first 3 days absolutely, keep her as quiet as possible. NO long walks, no romp sessions, no ya ya burning. After the initial healing period, small amounts of exercise will be ok. Still no major romp sessions or going for a jog. Lengthen her walks, as long as they are at a relatively easy pace, let her hang out in the yard for a while, even run off a few ya yas, but nothing overly strenuous.

The point is to keep her from overdoing it. Especially with the pain meds on board, she will be feeling just fine, but we must remember she just had an ovo-hysterectomy... major surgery... and needs to take it easy for a bit.

Well Daisy woke up looking for food! She ate all her food and licked the bowl clean. She wants to play but I am trying to discourage that. I think I will go out and get her a new bone today. That ought to keep her busy. Does anyone think that will bother her tummy? I will still keep her on her leash when we go out to potty. She is peeing good and she did go poop. Not much but she has gone 3 times since yesterday and only 2 -3 small stools but they are firm so I am taking that as a good sign. I think after a week I won't put her leash on but will continue to go outside with her when she needs to go. Otherwise all is well! Thanks all for the info and well wishes!

A bone will not bother her tummy. The anesthesia has wore off and so should any nauseau (sp?) she may have had. For now you just need to limit her romp time for a few days. The sutures have to heal :)
