? Hot spot
Permalink

Good Morning all,

Frazier's had this area on his neck/behind his ear for about 2 weeks now.  It was a little red at first, and then it crusted over with loss of fur.
The vet took a look @ it & said it could be a hot spot, but it's not really the season for those or allergies here in Cleveland.  Frazier also had a slight ear infection on that same side, & he thought he may have just been scratching that area b/c of the ear.
Anyhow, I have been cleaning it, and keep him from scratching it as much as I can.  I put a little neosporin on it.  It's still hanging around, but not changing much.
I read a previous forum that suggested using oils in the diet---so I'll try that.  But any other ideas?
Is two weeks too long?

Thanks as always,

Patricia & Frazier :)

Hi! Sorry to hear Fraziers a little under the weather. I am not sure of what a hot spot is but I too would put a little neosporin on it. Daisy has a little spot on her tummy that I had to put Neosporin on. She also is recouping from an ear infection and her being spayed. She gets her stitches out Friday. It sure has been hard keeping her calm. She got me up last night at 2am to go out. A bit unusual for her but I got up and let her out and she was just boxer burning in the blizzard with me yelling at her to come in. She just loves the snow!
Keep us informed on Frazier. Sorry I couldn't help.

Since Frazier had an ear infection on the same side, I would bet that this spot is realated. Probably from him scratching at his ear, and causing a slightly infected area on the skin. If the neosporin doesn' tclear it up in a few more days, or if more spots appear, then a recheck with a skin scraping is a really good idea.
