I have never seen a pup who hates having his nails trimmed as much as Max. I use both dremmel & clippers..to try to find a happy medium for him..ha ha...no go. He wiggles, he bites..it takes both me & my hubby to trim nails..and I better be fast. Is there a secret I don't know about..?? Trimming whiskers is no big deal ( well kind of ) to him, taping ears not a big deal..as long as hubby holds him...but he hates trimming nails. I don't know what it is, but he is not to keen on the grooming table either. Maybe he'll out grow that.
He'll be 4 months old on the 19th. Handling classes start the 29th...:)
Another question, he has beautiful cat like feet, I've been walking him on the pavement to help with the nails, to get some excerise, use the the lead..etc.. but I heard that walking on pavement will cause his feet to go flat..?? Is there any truth to this.??
Few Boxers enjoy getting their nails done. Just be persistant and patient when doing Max's. Do not allow him to bite. That will only get worse later. Correct him if he bites but do not stop doing the nails until they are all done. Eventually he will quit fighting and realize he lost the war :)
No, it is not true about the feet. A dog either has good feet or they don't. A large amount of inactivity (ie. broken leg) can make a foot go a bit flat. That makes sense since the muscles are not being used at all. But that would be all. And a dog with good feet that did suffer a broken leg will be able to regain their original feet rather quickly; once they are allow to romp again :)

Dogs in general hate having their feet handled. Basically, the best way to deal with it is to never let the dog pull away the paw you are working on. It can mean a battle for a couple of minutes, but if you fight the long battle once or twice, the war is generally over. Basically, your attitude should be, "this is my paw until I am finished and give it back to you". Also handling the feet frequently, both while snuggling, sleeping, all times of the day etc. All puppies benefit from having their owner touching all parts of their body frequently, socializing them to being touched any time, any place, by anyone. It goes a long way to creating a well behaed dog at the vet's, in public, at shows, in general. Think about a dog pack... the alpha dog and bitch can and do touch, nip, scold, take from, etc. from every other dog in the pack with no problem. The you as the human should be able to also. (OK... maybe not nip, but you get the idea... LOL)

Thanks for the tips...I am always touching & rubbing his feet when we cuddle...I even kiss his feet..LOL...I didn't think it was true about walking on pavement, but I just had to make sure...don't want to flatten those pretty feet..!
We had a hard time with Daisy also.. She absolutley hates nail clippers so I ordered a dremmel called peticure. They have a great video on their web site (www.peticure.com) that shows you how to intoduce the dremmel to them and how to use it.. Try watching this. It was very helpful to us to watch how it's done compared to reading how to do it. She was reluctant with the dremel at first. but stick with it. We did it in very small doses as suggested. Only do one nail the first time. then the second day try two. Under no circumstances do you let them pull away.. You got to stay tuff. The 3rd time we tried she let us do all four paws and just stood there and let us do it. Watch the video, it really helped us. Good luck!
That's a great idea introducing one nail at time! I am giggling so hard b/c I had to wrestle with Frazier on the floor with him straddled etc. LoL!! He would nip and tug....I did a nail, and offered a treat and continued that way--it worked, I started with the front paws one day-then the backs the next. It's definately not his favorite thing to do by any means, but he is much better at it now.
