Council unanimously passes ban of dogs at public events 
 
Despite a last-minute plea from a local veterinarian against the proposal to ban dogs from many public events in Marshalltown, the city council unanimously passed it into law at Mondays meeting. 
 
We dont need any more restrictions on individual rights in Marshalltown, said veterinarian Grant Jacobson. This is creating a solution to a problem that doesnt exist. Lets enforce existing laws rather than making new ones thatll be ignored anyway. 
 
The council also unanimously approved the list of events that dogs will be banned at. They include the Garden Extravaganza; Hispanic Heritage Festival; BBQ, Buggies and Tunes; Fourth of July-Independence Day Celebration; Central Iowa Art Fair; Central Iowa Music Festival; Oktemberfest; Homecoming Parade; municipal band concerts; cross country meets at the Iowa Veterans Home and the Holiday Stroll. 
 
The ban will take effect as soon as necessary notifications are made, likely yet this week.
