Sadly, one of our members lost their beloved Voodoo. When she is able, I encourage her to share some memories and perhaps some photos of this wonderful Boxer :)

When I can write the story and look at the pictures without crying, I promise a post that will do my sweet sweet girl justice.

Still crying, but you all need to know about my girl -

Voodoo came to me an abused rescue who was shy, scared and confused.  My friend had adopted her about a year earlier from a rescue, and then he disappeared (he was hospitalized with Leukemia) on her.  I came to care for Voodoo while he focused on his recovery.  9 months later I inherited her (upon his death).

Voodoo had never had any training, but so clearly wanted to behave she just needed the schooling to know what the words meant.  We proceeded to school together (Id never trained a dog before) while she was never the brightest bulb on the tree, she was most definitely always the sweetest.

Voodoos greatest happiness was being with us.  I was fortunate that I work from home and she was always at my side.  I very very rarely left home without her, and through training and increased exposure, my shy girl bloomed.

I only had her for 2.5 years, but I know for her those were wonderful years full of joy.

2 weeks ago she appeared to have some type of soft tissue damage after a week of treatment, she appeared healed and ran to me with joy through the yard.  But the next day the pain was back (Voodoo was such a stoic dog, she didnt let me know it hurt until it was truly unbearable for her) an MRI showed a massive hemangiosarcoma encompassing her entire abdominal cavity, pressing on her spine and bleeding.  There was nothing we could do.  She may have lasted a few more very painful weeks, or may have passed the next day.

I am glad I was able to make the decision to end her suffering but oh how I miss her!   She will always be in my heart and in the hearts of all those who knew her.

Aww I love those photos!! You gave Voodoo the most incredible 2-1/2 years a dog could ever have. Snuggles, loves and adventures :)

Today is exactly one year since I lost my precious girl.  While it has gotten a tiny bit easier, I still miss her more than I can say.  She was a very special girl and not a day has gone by that I have not thought of her - and cried a few tears for missing her.

She left a huge hole that can never be filled.  But she also left a legacy in my home.  While Voodoo can never be replaced I have opened my life to another rescue pup.  His name is Remy and he is a goofy Golden Retriever boy who hears about his older sister all the time.

He is her opposite in almost every way.  Where Voodoo was calm and sedate, Remy is a bundle of energy.  Voodoo was wary and cautious, Remy runs wrecklessly at whatever life throws at him.

The one thing I keep telling him is that she would have loved him and they would have been the very best of friends - and one day we will all play together over the bridge where she (and Seth my friend who passed) is waiting for us.

All the best to everyone.
Lenna

Welcome to Remy !

I have not doubt that Voodoo did not want you to be alone and so guided you towards another happy doggy soul that needed you. I am certain Voodoo would have both approved and loved him. Goldens are big happy goofballs whom rarely seem to take life seriously.

I find that completely endearing :)
