Does anyone know of a tried and true way to stop a dog from eating it's feces?
Poor Sarah! Most of you know we got her as a breeder re-home because she has a heart defect (Sub Aortic Stenosis) and that she was overly crated for the first 3.5 years of her life. I know this is where the habit began.
While we have overcome much, bringing in the occasional foster dog (usually if it is an adult or pre-adult female) seems to have caused a certain regression/anxiety. Because of it I have had to be firm with my group in telling them I can only take males or female pups.
Sarah will eat her feces while in our 6' x 15' outdoor run, if she has an accident in the house (also part of the regression); and now sometimes even at night when we let her out if we don't call her right back inside...she eats then too.
LOL---I know it is gross. I have heard many things you can add to their diet but have no personal experience to draw from. Crystal had this disgusting habit her entire life. She did not always eat her droppings. But she did it off and on her entire life.
There was nothing missing from her diet. She had no medical problems that would make this happen. And she had always been a happy house dog her entire life. Booker T and Penny have never done this. Brandi neither. But Crystal found something appealing there.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww--at least it never seemed to do her any harm.

Cassius also has this habit, and not just his own feces. He simply lives for cat feces, and will "help" me clean up the yard if I have been lax on poop patrol. Yecccchhhhhhhhh
Disgusting yes... alas, seems to be perfectly normal as well.
Stella did this when she was a pup, completely freaked me out...LOL.....she did "train" me to pick up poop really fast after she went potty.... she grew out of it, and stopped snaking...LOL...
