As I had posted before, Tyra's family is moving to China for 2 years. This is for her daddy's business. Tyra actually made the trip over a week ago and here is an email I recieved from her daddy to her mom:
"I was gone 10AM - 5PM yesterday and left the sliding door open on the balcony. When I came home I saw that she had peed and pooped outside. Good girl!!
Already potty trained after a week and also when we are in the elevator she sits 100% of the time so she does not scare the other passengers. Sit! Stay! Good Boo-boo! "
Her owners told me they are in a high rise apartment building. It is typical for those living in Shanhai. Many people have pets including dogs as large as Labradors. They have a high speed elevator to get down below and there are parks to walk. But they also have fenced off balconies which many do use for a pet area as well as a human area. In their home here near me, they had a similar arrangement as they live on the side of a cliff overlooking a valley.

I had to forward this email to you from Dave who is already in China (you are right, Tyra is 100% daddy's girl!). I'm still here through 12/13. After a long journey, Tyra made it to Shanghai the day before Thanksgiving. She went on 3 different flights! She was scheduled on a flight where a leopard was also in the cargo hold - so they moved her to another flight, thank God! Can you imagine??
She is getting acclimated to a totally different environment. Has found a spot to call her own on the sofa. Dave is doing a great job, running with her every other day, so she's tired out. Dave set up a web cam in our apartment and I've been able to watch her - bringing tears to my eyes of course!! I'll have to call you when she's on camera - it's too cute. Well, I'll keep you updated and email pics once I'm over there.
P.S. I loved, loved, loved your Christmas card with Brandi!

Seems that traveling is in Tyra's blood, just like her namesake!!! Glad she made the trip well... what a long journey it is to China... at least it wasn't on a "slow boat".
I'm very happy to hear that Tyra made the trip and is acclimating well to her new home. The longest trip any of our Boxers have take is from CO to Korea. Merlin did well, just as Tyra and I had to really thank the Airlines for doing such a wonderful job keeping us apprised on each leg of the journey.. Hope all continues to go well, Bev

China has been in the news lately for its crack down on animals. Families are limited to one dog and large ones are quite frowned upon. There were pictures of dogs beaten to death with clubs and stories of dogs being confiscated.
Prayerfully Tyra's family will not encounter any of this!
When we were toying with the prospect of working in Australia we found out the quarantine period was thre months. Ouch!
David works for IBM. This 2 year trip is on behalf of his company. As many bad things as I have heard about China and dogs, I have heard just as many good things. More reliably the current updates have been from those that have either lived or traveled with pets in China.
I would simply hope that with the current fragile nature of export/imports between China and the US, they would treat the overseas employees of IBM rather well. Including their 4 legged family members :)
