It's official, I am, in fact, insane. Last night I picked up a 9 month old Boxer girl as a foster. She was surrendered to me by a neighbor and postal customer of mine. They had bought that adorable "puppy in the window" without giving any thought to the realities of caring for it. They have a very busy life, as do most of us, so Sadie was being locked in the garage (to keep her out of trouble sonce they don't have a fenced yard) for up to 10 hours each day. Thankfully, the family ralized they were not giving Sadie the life she deserves, and even more thankfully, they did not sell her or let her go to just anyone. There are some puppy millers in a nearby town who actually advertise puppies for sale in the car shopper weekly.
Sadie is adorable. Plain fawn, with black mask. 43 pounds currently. Submissive and shy, but not overly so. Fairly, mellow but impish, and mischeivious of course. She will be spayed on Wed. She and Lacey are getting along quite well, at least for now (who knows as she matures into an adult). Cassius is a bit grumbly, growly, but nothing too bad. I think he is just trying to set the ground rules with her. I left them alone without supervision for about 1 hour today, and no one was bleeding or cowering in the corner when I returned... so I think it's going to go fairly smoothly overall. Of course it's an adjustment for all of us. Wish us well
Welcome miss Sadie... may the rest of your life be filled with the love, care and attention you deserve
I see this so much in rescue..this is how we got Leo...the people didn't know how to handle a boxer puppy, tried to train the boxer out of him, didn't have time, etc. I wish people would do their research & think twice before they buy that cute puppy in the window..especially at Christmas time.
Your not insane, your special for helping this sweet boxer girl..and I thank you..:)
Pupdate. Well, today I had to work, which means the dogs were left alone for several hours with me coming home at lunch, to potty and give them a romp session. The only thing out of place when I returned home, were the bras I had washed and left to dry. Apparently they still smell like me so Sadie decided to bring them under the computer desk with her. They weren't damaged, so I think she just wanted to smell me close to her. I am quite happy at how smoothly things are going! Now tomorrow is her spay, so that will be yet another hurdle out of the way. Keep good thoughts for a routine surgery and easy recovery for her.
You are definitely not insane, Susan. I am so happy that these owners surrendered Sadie to you and not just anyone. Zammi is the same story. Keeping her in our thoughts and prayers for a safe spay and quick recovery.

Susan, Thats so great that your fostering Sadie.....ahem....if all goes well, will she be more than just a foster????????
A few years ago, a friend of mine, told me about a boxer next door to her, that was NINE years old, and had been with her neighbors for all NINE years....they were taking him to the shelter, a high kill shelter at that.....they didn't want him anymore....
Here was the reason, they were remodeling and getting white carpet, they didn't want him to get it dirty.....
So, she got in touch with me, I went over and gave them the information to two boxer rescues in So. Calif......a few days later, my friend said that they were going ahead with their plan to dump him off at the shelter, so I went over again, and offered to take him....foster him, until LABR could take him....
The turned me down....would not let me take him...they dumped him at some other shelter, and wouldn't let us know which one it was...personally I think they had him put down....
So, I'm glad Sadie was saved from long hours spent in a garage....

Good luck with your new girlie....
Thanks Nancy... she is doing really well, and fitting in great with my gang. I am actually having a hard time, I had forgotten what it was like to have a puppy in the house!!! She is impish and mischeivous, as any boxer pup should be... her biggest problem right now, is she is obsessed with the Fab Felines... not mean to them, just can't let them be...
She gets along great with both Cassius and Lacey. I am not sure yet whether I will keep her, or rehome her. I had been thinking of getting another Boxer, since Cassius is about to turn 11 and Lacey has never been alone, but had planned on a boy. Hmmmmm...
